Practice rumblings?
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:16:54 PM »
I know realignment and a top-10 football team has everyone's attention, but anyone have super inside info on practices/players. Is JHO dunking on bitches? Omari leaving any covers on balls? Anything?

Not from practice, but to me 1 of the more disappointing quotes from the preseason was this one:

"Omari Lawrence had a reputation for being a driver that couldn't shoot and he's been shooting lights out in workouts but he can't go anywhere with the dribble." - Frank 10/13

EMAPE, I don't care if you are shooting the cover or the top or the whatever off the ball, you were going to be that slashing, playmaking wildcard on the wing for us, and now, I just don't know what to think.

Frank said that Jamar is acting like a senior.

JO is blocking shots better than frank has seen any past one of his players do.

Rod is healthy and doing v well.

All per twitter today

Thanks for this quote. I'd seen it several times but with the "but he can't go anywhere with the dribble" cut off. I always thought it was weird because Frank was talking about things the other new guys needed to work on, and Omari was the only player he didn't say anything negative about. Now it makes sense.

I hope Omari is back to his old self soon. Probably just needs to shake off the rust.

"Early on, you'll see a team that has some promising moments defensively," Martin said. "Other times, we're going to give up some baskets that will have you going, 'What's Frank running in practice?'"
Guess the new guys aren't quite getting the defense. I think that may be Jones since he's still "playing like a Juco kid". Someone's gonna pull a Nick Russell. Good offense, bad defense and no playing time!

Frank on Nino - "He does some things in practice that make you realize he's still a freshman."

I knew he was raw out of high school, but I was hoping he could be a spark off the bench this year...   :runaway:

Diaz needs to get stronger - duh

Will's gonna be the point guard - duh

Irving is apparently better, but he's still Irving...

Martin on Gipson - "He plays with the same aggression as Luis Colon but has an understanding of how to score."

A successful senior year required total commitment. Samuels changed his diet, switching from McDonald's to Chipotle, where he eats up to three meals per day. He also dedicated himself to offseason workouts with strength coach Scott Greenawalt, bulking up to 233 pounds for his senior season.

is Chipotle any healthier than McD's??

Probably same calorie content, but much healthier calories. Especially if you get it without the tortilla.

offensive to look for 3pt/mid range oppies with strong boarding. Jam Sam to get fed faced up to basket anywhere outside 10 ft. JHR's O role consists of rebounding/putbacks and redistributing dribbles and occasional baseline looks from 6-8ft out.  Spradling with a green light outside 19'9" or whatever and Gruds with a green light 3-4 ft closer in. Omari, obviously, with a red light. all through the night. Per Martin "I know that he wants it. I can see it in his eyes. And we might as well be honest, because the body never lies."
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Someone should show him how to make a few tasty nutritious meals at home. Chipotle 3x day is kind of expensive for a college student.

Martin said "Lawrence gives the Wildcats a power guard and has obviously added to his game since he left high school, now capable of shooting farther from the basket instead of solely relying on his ability to drive and finish."

I think he'll be alright, as long as he get enough sleep at night.  :lick:

Probably the same analysts that were talking ish about Kelly before he got to the Little Apple.  I think Frank still has some of that water from the fountain of youth that he brought up from Florida. I'm  a Cat fan in NYC thats also biased to ny players.  i'm just glad to have two natives repping my favorite team.  having my cake and eating it two.   :ksu:

prolly one of those old men that stands out around the 3 point line and shoots the top&cover off every ball in the gym.
"a garden city man wondered in april if the theologians had not made a mistake in locating the garden of eden in asia rather than in the arkansas river valley."
