(11) KSU @ KU
« on: October 17, 2011, 12:02:23 PM »
In UFC terms, lets take a look at the "tale of the tape"

OFFENSE

Rushing: KSU - 206.0 (25th)     KU - 206.8 (23rd)
Passing: KSU - 130.2 (109th)    KU - 218.3 (69th)
Ppg: KSU - 29.3 (58th)     KU - 31.7 (40th)
Total Offense: KSU - 94th   KU - 40th

DEFENSE

Rushing: KSU - 96.8 (16th)   KU - 227.2 (110th)
Passing: KSU - 248.8 (84th)  KU - 337.8 (110th)
Opp Ppg: KSU - 19.5 (21st)   KU - 49.0 (120th)

SOME HISTORY

Sadly, Kansas currently leads us in the rivalry historically as our current record against them is 37-63-5. On a better note, in a 12 year span with LHC Bill Snyder as the head coach, KSU beat Kansas 11 times with the only loss during that span coming in 1992. KU wouldn't win again til a home game in 2004. Last seasons game was a blowout, 59-7, In Kansas States favor.

PREVIEW

(11) Kansas State (6-0, 3-0) have started out ranked nicely in the BCS standings. Coming off a huge win down in lubbock where the wildcats faced, yet again, a high powered offense featuring a young star in the making quarterback, Kansas State is looking ahead to a break in their season as they go to Lawrence to face the Jayhawks. Kansas State's defense should be able to handle this one pretty easily as they have had to face four straight games of high powered, big play offenses and have stepped up to the plate in those games. With KU, they are facing a good but not great set of offensive players. Obviously the key is to stop Jordan Webb, who might be KU's best player at quarterback since Todd Reesing. Another player that KSU is gonna have to key on and make sure they know where he's at is freshman #3 Darrian Miller, who has shown that he is one of the future stars for this ailing team. Miller had a strong showing against Oklahoma and this kid can run. He never goes down on first contact and always seems to get them 2 or 3 yards no matter what happens. Our D-line is fast and strong, and if they get ahold of him he shouldn't be able to fall forward as much as he did against Oklahoma. And even if he gets by the defensive line, our linebackers won't let him get anywhere. Webb, though  he's no Doege or RG3, has shown that he can get it done and his stats on the year are not too bad (11 tds to 5 ints, 1,238 yards).

Defensively, look for our d-line and linebackers to pressure Webb all day. Our line is much better then their o-line and we should be able to control the line of scrimmage, forcing KU to throw the ball more then they are wanting to. They are more comfortable running the ball and if we force them to pass early, it could throw them off all game. KU fans better hope Webb can run, because he's gonna be scramblin around most the day. Malone is playing at an All American level, and Garrett is consistently shutting down half the field, so with KU being forced to pass it could turn into more turnovers for our defense. They have some talent at wide reciever, namely Daymon Patterson and D J Beshears, but they don't amount up to our defensive backs talent wise. Again, defensively we should easily control this game from the start.

Offensivly, we should have a hay day. KU consistently ranks last or near last in each defensive category. Klein, Hubert, hell even Vai Latui would be able to rack up rush yards on these guys lol. Collin Klein should have a huge day, KU showed up strong in the first half of the game against OU but landry jones isn't the same kind of runner as Klein is, and that should be hard for KU to stop. Hubert and Pease are a nice combination as well, and KU will even have to watch out for Pease throwing the ball out of the wildcat. Offensively we run the table on their defense, and this game should be a blowout of epic proportions. We finally deserve one of those lol

It is a rivalry game, and you never know what can happen during these. But when your team has so much more talent then the other, its so hard to not expect a blowout.

PREDICTION

Kansas State stays undefeated on the season with a 49-24 victory.

This is normally when we get leveled and leveled hard.   :blank:

No not yet. Qhatz take care of business in Lubbock, then lose 28-27 in Lawrence.  :flush:

I agree, but with less offense from the Jayhawks. They stay under 20 points  :lynchmob:

If we can't run the ball against KU we can't run it against anyone.

fwiw..Tech's rushing offense ranked behind KU's....and we were stonewalled in the first half vs. Tech. All part of the scheme imho.  :emawkid:

We were in a 4-2-5 defense against tech, we are going back to our run stop 4-3-4 for KU, which we will also use for OU unless Landry lights us up the first half, which I pray he doesn't.

His name is Fuktard, at least he had the decency to give us a heads up.
