A few things from the Tech game...

I haven't gotten a chance to rewatch the game yet, but there were some things that stood out.

only two things pissed me off about the defense in this game:

1) tackling
2) poor run fits and angles by the front 7 a few times.

Everything else I sort of expected.  I expected Tech to get 450-plus and score around 30 pts.  I did not expect 100 plays.  We had a number of occasions where we defended it pretty well and yet Tech extended drives or converted to big plays due to poor tackling (see #2 as well).  It did not help that we didn't play keep away offensively.  If we started the first half offensively the way we started the 2nd half Tech's production would have been cut down.

Spread offenses like Tech will get their yards on everybody between the 20s (see WVa's 500-plus yards on LSU) but poor tackling and angles just magnifies it.
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

Was this our most penalized game this year?  Seems like we were called for quite a few offsides and false starts.  Kind of unexpected from this team.

Nice that we could still win on the road even with all those mistakes.

i was very proud of baby lockett, my preseason prediction of him being the first team all-team speedster and how i predicted his impact on this team was spot on.  thx.

btw, I had some reservations about whether Lockett could remain on team speedster when the tech player nearly got a glove on him on the return.  turns out that tech player was the 200 meter sprint champ in Florida in 2010...2nd fastest prep in the nation that year.  So Lockett remains on team speedster team.

just an fyi, this was the 2nd lowest yards per play that Tech's offense produced in a game this year (aTm was 5.0 last week) and it was the lowest points Tech has scored in a game.  That, coupled with the turnovers produced by our defense, says we did well on the road against their offense given the fact our offense was dysfunctional and didn't help much.

Tech fans feel this is the best offense they've had outside of the 2008 offense w/ Crabtree.

Yes, and this was really the main reason for 2 of Tech's 40+ yard plays in the first half. The other was decent coverage by Chapman but a great throw and catch by Tech. The offensive deficiencies and no chance to get on the sidelines and make adjustments b/c of the Malone/Lockett scores didn't help much either.

Offensively we finally figured it out and its no surprise that we really dominated the game in the final 30 minutes.

you're welcome.  I was just watching Lockett and thought he looked fast so it was sort of an illusion that this tech player was near him at the endzone.  Well, watched the play again and McRoy was a safety contain type of guy on their KO coverage unit in case anyone broke.  He was actually up the field a few yards but at the far hash while Lockett was middle of the field.  He did have to build up some steam going back the other direction but he was already headed that way.  He did not close in a hurry and he had an angle.  Any closing was very gradual.  He's a little faster than Lockett but minimally.  Tyler can scoot!

Yes, he showed a lot on that return. I thought for sure he'd be caught about midfield or slightly after, then he seperated as he cut toward the sideline. Very impressive.

Yep, Lockett and McRoy were bunched up with a lot of folks and the two just seperated from the field.  It's not like those guys were slow and those two just pulled away.  Tough to build up that type of cusion over 40-50 yards.  McRoy is really, really fast...he went 20.93 in the 200 to win state down in Florida.

I thought he was probably pushing himself too hard and was going to fall before the endzone

Forgot who it was that picked up the blocked FG and got shoestringed by the kicker at midfield.  That pissed me off  :shakesfist:, should have run that one in  :curse:

May have run that back even faster if he hadn't kept looking back.  I would have...he was running smoking fast.

I think it was Malone. It would have been his 2nd touchdown of the game.

We got a TD on that drive, and I would much rather our defense get a 5 minute break while our offense goes down and scores. Granted our offense hadn't scored yet, at that point..

It feels good knowing our team speedster is better than Tech's team speedster.
