Question for HFBIQ types, talent evaluation guys regarding AB
« on: October 04, 2011, 10:34:49 PM »

The vid is set on the play where AB tracked down RGIII and sacked him on Baylor's final possession.  My question is how any D1 linebackers can even make that play?  This one sticks out the most but when you really watch some of the play the guy makes it is like something I haven't seen but on a very rare occasion.  It's been awhile since I've seen an LB make those kind of  :surprised: plays.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Watching him this year I have no idea how he couldn't get on the field at Miami.

His tackle on the RB on third down was also pretty nice. Dude's fast.

To me he has speed like Derrick Johnson did at Tejas.  Same issue tho, they take funky angles because their speed allows them to but at the next level(because Arthur will get drafted) they will have to learn to shed blocks better and not run around them instead.

not very many d1 lbs make that play.  AB appears to take a bad angle, but his speed allows him to run down RG3 from the inside out.  absolutely sick play.

Well he was playing behind an NFL player last year, but still.  I think there was something going on between him and Randy Shannon.  Either that or Shannon was completely clueless which is probably why he got fired last year.  I absolutely loved that high school highlight video Poetwarrior posted a few years ago when we were recruiting Arthur the first time around.  It was plainly obvious he was awesome, and my heart broke when we didn't get him then.

inside out is the right angle

it is if you have the speed that AB does.  inside out against RG3 would not work for 90% of college linebackers.

If RG3 had commited to running the ball earlier AB would not have caught him with that angle.

He played behind an NFL player, and he has had two years to lift, learn, and mature since then.

AB seems to make his reads super fast. I've been to 2 of the home games and it's been a while since we have had a linebacker that can make a read and explode to where he needs to be that fast. Like you said, if he does take a bad angle, he just makes up for it with his speed. I am very excited to see what the future holds for him.

Best analysis I have and I call a lot of HS games on the radio on Friday nights is that AB has a huge and abnormaly large weiner!  :dunno:

He's undersized for his position at the next level (6'1, 223), but has exceptional speed (4.4-4.5). In all likelihood, he'll either have to move to strong safety or put on 15-20lbs. I'm guessing the latter, and with a 4.5-4.6 40 time, he'll be killer.

Avg NFL LB height and weight:
(6'2, 247)

Avg NFL SS height and weight:
(6'0, 210)
