WTF?

Can we just stop for a sec and talk about what the eff happened? This entire board went from talking about how Snyder sucks and Cosh is the worst DC of all time to debating whether we need to give Snyder a raise and extension (Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) rough ridin' debate, BTW). I'll go first...halfway through last year I was done with Snyder and wanted Cosh run out of town on a rail. I was convinced that Snyder was surrounding himself with friends that were shitty at coaching football and recruiting football players. Now we're ranked. Are the assistants better than what we thought? Were we wrong about Snyder? Is Snyder so good that he's compensating for shitty assistants?

I think we need to stop ignoring the obvious and eat a little crow. This team is a HELLUVA lot better than a lot of us thought we'd be, especially on defense. I was dead wrong and I don't know why?

We might not always be right, but for the record we were 119th against the run last year. Probably mostly related to talent but I'm convinced coaching had something to do with it. AB and Kibble really help.

I'm still ok with Cosh getting the hell out, but I know you can't fire him if he keeps it up this year. It won't be long before we no longer have a 5* middle linebacker to make him look good.

Still not prepared to admit that I'm wrong, because Arthur Brown is a bad ass. Unless we start recruiting more Arthur Browns - this staff will still be incapable of prolonged success. FTR, I was never really upset about immediate needs, I just think the whole "calming of the waters" concept really cuts your hands off. Who the eff want to take a job or go play football for someone that is just "calming the waters" ?

Really all I'm pissed at.

Cosh is having a pretty good year, but I'm still in favor of finding someone better. He just has never shown that he is capable of putting an elite level defense on the field. Changing to a 4-3 definitely has helped. It's pretty obvious at this point that Cosh really didn't know what he was doing in a 4-2-5.

Snyder made Cosh switch schemes back to a 4-3. My belief is snyder is setting the schemes up for the games and cosh is just doing the play calling from there. Snyder teams have always rushed 3 and dropped 8 against pass happy TT no matter who the Dcord was, we did that this weekend. He hasn't figured out you need to put pressure on the QB to stop pass happy teams. cosh is just a puppet this year after his failings last year and us not being able to land a new dcord.

Pretty sure everyone here knows Snyder can coach his ass off. It's his recruiting/assistants/nepotism that pisses me off the most.

Some haven't.... I'm still firmly on the "retire Bill" bus for reasons I stated above. I think I've made my feelings pretty clear in several post that I'll reference if need be.

Improvement is simple.

1) Arthur Brown
2) Player improvement/experience (like Kibble and Walker)
3) Scheme, going away from 4-2-5 to 4-3.

Cosh didn't get any better or any worse, he's just showing what he always has been; a average/decent DC. It is helping a lot that he has better players, but getting away from a scheme that didn't fit our personnel helps too.

And as others have said, there is still plenty of season. When we end up where we likely will (8-4, maybe 7-5) many will be back and calling for changes depending on how it goes down.

Cosh's worth should be measured by his ability to recruit.

But for talented player(s) [Arthur Brown], we'd probably be 2-2 at this point.

Pretty simple.

DoD coaches were fantastic because they recruited and coached NFL players.

You can't teach speed and talent and we appear to have just enough talent and speed to overcome Cosh's worthlessness. I'm still the driver of the replace Snyder and his merry band of dipshits bandwagon. I'm thrilled where we are right now, but I'm interested in long term success. A 71 yr old man and his non-recruiting friends and family staff cannot sustain this level of success.

Yeah, but don't those two things contradict one another?

Look, I'm not saying I'm super extra excited to have a 71 year old coach and no real long-term vision, but we appear to have talent (recruiting) and that talent is winning games (coaching). I was ready to throw the entire staff and roster out of Vanier last year...hell, after the EKU game...and now we're ranked and winning exciting games. I'm just really emotionally confused right now and looking for answers. nevermind. just nevermind.

4-2-5 is gimmicky bs
Having talent at LB (and ours is now really good) is super important
DL is way better as wel

the only thing that scares me is we may not be real deep still and may wear down, though we are way deeper than last year.

the D wasn't OMG bad until the second half of the season last year. the last few games we were absolutely horrid
