Used to spend my summers working at the Sweet Tooth in the Dodge City mall.

The menonites came to town every sunday.  Nice people.  Never minded dipping a few ice cream cones for them. Salt of the earth.

Wife works with a guy who was raised as a Mennonite.  he is nonpracticing now.

Anyway, the guy gets absolutely zero jokes.  Especially any that contain innuendo.

Completely oblivious.  Nice guy though.

Lots of Russian women/Mennonites up here in the Northwest.  A couple of them work at my bank and they are pretty hot.  No joke.

Rumblings that TV sets in barns weren't factored into the calculations. K-State expected to receive bids from Big 10, SEC, Pac and Ivy based on increased meatgoat viewership.

Do you still have to come to KC to get the big money out of the trust?  Another $80 puts you in the running for the autographed Beasley basketball.

Do you think those people used solar powered generators?

What do you guys think of those, thinking of getting one in case of a Hurricane, gas powered ones are a pain because they sit around collecting dust most of the time.

Oh, what's this ou stuff?

From the Eugene Reporter:

Quote
There is plenty of talk that Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott does not want to sit at 14 conference members and that two other Big 12 schools will be joining the Oklahoma contingent.

It is known that the Pac-12 greatly values Texas and has designs on Texas and Texas Tech being that pair. However, the Longhorns stubbornness in wanting to keep it's third tier rights and partner with ESPN in the Longhorn Network is a sticking point for both Texas and Scott and the Pac-12. The other pair in lieu of Texas and Texas Tech appear to be Kansas and Missouri or Kansas and Kansas State.

One journalist with plenty of experience and contacts throughout the conferences and schools most heavily involved in the current state of realignment is George Schroeder of the Eugene (Ore.) Register Guard. Schroeder, who also writes for national publications, including Sports Illustrated, has covered Arkansas and the SEC, Oklahoma and the Big 12, and has been in Oregon covering the Ducks, the Pac-12, and national college football for the past four years.

Schroeder says his sources tell him the Pac-12, as reported, will take Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, with or without Texas.

"It's clear that Oklahoma and Oklahoma State that the Pac-12 is ready to invite them and that they have that indicated to them regardless of whether or not Texas or anybody else is willing to come along," said Schroeder. "I have heard that from people that are high up at the Pac-12 that will happen. I'm also hearing that they really want Texas and that they don't want to be at 14.

"Now as things continue to happen and as we wait for the SEC and Texas A&M (to be official), I think we are going to continue to hear wilder and wilder things," added Schroeder. "The KU and K-State thing would be mildly surprising to me. They would love to have Kansas, academically and basketball. It would not be a monetary thing with football, but it would give you a flagship basketball program on one side of the league and one on the other side of the league with UCLA. It just gets weirder and weirder as time goes on."

Schroeder said he isn't sure whether all of this realignment and the move toward super conferences is good or bad for college football and college athletics. It really kind of remains to be seen. He also isn't sure whether the rapid movement of it all is good or bad or if something is being missed in breakneck speed that schools and conferences are shifting.

He does see that Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will fit in some ways into the culture of the Pac-12 Conference and in some ways they may not, but their influence will be felt and be felt the day they join the league.

"I think it all sort of depends on if they take two schools and get to 14 or if they take four schools and get to 16," started Schroeder. "If you get to 16 and you have the East-West divisions then you are still with the same schools you have been playing all these years. You would have the original Pac-8 and then you would have Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado, and whatever these four Big 12 schools would be. At that point it is a nice fit because you really have two leagues within one. If you just have 14 then it is a cultural adjustment for everybody because the Pac-12 is a different league. Even the passion is different. Oregon can fit in anywhere.Their fan base is like that in the SEC or Big 12. Eugene is a liberal hotbed, but their passion for football is like the schools in the SEC and Big 12.

"The image of UCLA fans half filling the Rose Bowl and playing with beach balls like they are at Dodger Stadium is a little bit of a characterture, but it's not a bad characterture. It will be a culture shock in some ways for everybody."

Get ready for a little shock because it sure looks strong that the Cowboys are edging that way along with the Sooners. The major question is who or what two will join them?

Beems, you missed this from Larry Scott's chat the other day:

Comment From Aldomar
Can you explain, for us laymen why football drives expansion and why basketball is not seen as important as football?
12:33

Larry Scott:
It comes down primarily to television value, which relates directly to ratings. Regular-season college football is a blockbuster. It is second only to the NFL in terms of ratings and interest. While I would put NCAA March Madness in the same category, unfortunately, regular-season basketball has been diluted for a variety of reasons and isn't drawing big-time audiences on television.

Solution:  put KU, Oklahoma St, and Texas in the same conference with UCLA, Arizona, Washington, and soon-to-be Oregon.

Oh yeah, they'll pretty much cancel the other 19 college hoops games that will be on TV at the same time for those matchups.

Someday, low self esteem ku fans will understand that hardcore college sports country is primarily hardcore college football country, not college basketball country.

Seems like using gas powered generators wouldn't be very cost effective.

Evidently, it is either that, use hand tools, or sell your soul to the devil and hook up to the grid.

What was also interesting is that I was on said hunting trip as a guest of one of my dad's vendors(sold wood materials, not raw, but partially shaped base materials).  The amish guy was also a customer of the same vendor.  So not only did the hypocritical Amish d00d use generators, but they also bought materials that was partially processed by some non Amish guy in a factory in downtown Philly.

JFC, who gives a flying eff whether they "bought materials that was partially processed by some non Amish guy in a factory in downtown Philly."  I don't get your hostility toward the Amish people here dude.  It sounds to me like you just don't like them because they don't embrace every bit of technology out there that you do.  Does they phrase "hand made" mean that absolutely no electrical tool can be used in the process, and is that an express guarantee made by all Amish arts and crafts vendors?  I highly doubt that.  And how is it hypocritical to occasionally use a generator for some things?  It is not the electricity itself that their religion forbids.  Here is a site that explains the answer for you.

I didn't like the thread getting sidetracked the last couple of pages on Amish / Mennonite talk, but when somebody comes out bashing their religion like that for no good reason, I thought it deserved a retort.

Everybody would still not watch your regular season basketball games.  They really don't matter much.

And that is why there aren't playoffs in college football.

The original Pac 6, or even Pac 8, will never break apart into divisions with the mid-west hayseeds. The only option would be the Az schools with the new retards from the east, if that were to come about.

Some positive chatter *****
I received a couple emails today that suggested OU and ESPN have reached agreement on a Sooner Network. I have no idea the validity of it and I was not going to share it with the board, but I have seen it from a few different sources. Again, I have no idea if it is true. You would also think it would have been mentioned by some other media outlets. I am sharing because I thought the board can use any positive information it can get. Hopefully, we know one way or another by Monday.
Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008
