Thanks man.  I am pretty excited about it.  Should be some pretty awesome riding in general...the mountain intimidates me a little bit but I think as long as I watch my HR and keep from blowing up I should be able to make it.

Give me a follow on Strava.

Hey guys - I haven't been riding nearly as much as I would like...endless mowing, ball practices, etc., but next week I will be in Maui and while I am there I am going to rent a bike and attempt this bad boy:

John Kerry kinda sucks at riding bikes. Broke the eff out of his femur.

Old dudes and high-speed descents don't mix well.

Oh man, still in disbelief about that finish in Albstadt. Nino schurely had it locked up, and then heartbreak. Good on Absalon tho, he put on a show. Gotta wonder how much the 34 year old has left in him. Side note: the Swiss are complete badasses.

this morning cycling story:
I was driving my hellantra out of my 'hood following a mom van. the mom van stops at the stop sign, sees no cars, and begins to pull out onto the major road. A cyclist comes off the sidewalk at 15-20 mph and plows into the front fender of the van.

the mom gets out to help the cyclist who just lays on the ground checking her body parts, silently really angry.

I ask if everyone is ok and if we need to call anyone. They are totally silent. I linger around in case my expert witness testimony is needed, but the cyclist gets up checks out the bike and rides away.

I offer any help one more time to no response, get in my hellantra, and ride away.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Lots of cool stuff out there now about the Dirty Kanza 200 that was recently held in the Flint Hills.  Some wild pics in here: http://www.kansascity.com/living/article22865088.html
http://www.kansascity.com/living/article22681467.html

After talking to a few riders, the rain absolutely wrecked the course.  About 15 miles in there was a 3 mile hike with your bike on your back because the mud was so bad.   :sdeek:

Haleakala kicked my teeth in.  I gave up my attempt at 5500'...beyond my imagination of how hard it might be.  Bombing down the descent for 20 miles was awesome though.  Lots of great riding in Maui and I got in over 10k feet of climbing in just over 100 miles of riding for the week.

Can I get a decent commuter bike that I can also mess around with on some training for distance crap for around $500? My ride to school is short, so I dont need much comfort, but I'd also like to do a little training for the MS 150. It's sort of a goal of mine someday.
