Things we learned: Week 1
« on: September 04, 2011, 06:56:09 AM »
Arthur is the real deal. Bryce is not

Oline looked on par with Prince's teams

Klein is no Coffman

Defense as a whole looked decent.

I'm going to buy Rev Honey today

I'm not judging Bryce off that game.

I am judging the oline. Just terrible.

There's also no reason to think any of our QBs since Freeman would have had a significantly different performance.

Do you think that if he was half as good as he was touted to be, he'd be sharing snaps? The fact that he's not a clear cut starter tells me what I need to know. I'm not saying he won't be a good back, but barring injury to Hubert I don't believe Bryce will be leading this team in rushing this season.

If Bryce doesn't lead the team in rushing this year we won't win 4 games. Hubert is terrible, just awful.

If you had told 90% of our fans that we'd need a fourth quarter comeback, they'd have started working out the same excuses sputtering out now.

We fit reality into the pre-destined narrative of Snyder as diety.

Yep, 4.5 ypc as a Freshman in the SEC was probably just a fluke.  He just needs to be coached up more by Bill and when he starts doing things the right way, he will beat out greats like Hubert.   :flush:

Things we learned: Week 1

being reminded that message boards are great after games like this one.

meh...i didn't expect the offense to come out firing on all cylinders.  I figured we'd score 24-27 pts, tops.  First time out for the interior OL against what is supposed to be a salty FCS defense.  We'll live.

Actually Prince's first game against Illinois State we rushed for like 10 yards.  Last night was about 200 and they threw the kitchen sink at us defensively.   Lots of room to improve.  hopefully it gets done...if it doesn't then we might consider jumping off a cliff.
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

No, no spin . . . we are BCS team playing a middle of the road FCS team, it should have been over no later than the middle of the 3rd quarter.

The backs had no room to run. Our offensive line play was very poor.  Can't really judge any of the skill position players, because of just how terrible our line was.

Reminiscent of 2005 offense...OL disintegrating at the snap, RBs who can't stay on their feet, and not valuing the ball

It really was terrible. Thank god Wyatt provided everyone with talking points about that salty FCS defense and their sneaky pre-snap movement.

Some people still drink the "Snyder will get it fixed" kool-aid.

Well, we've seen many times over the last 5 seasons with Snyder that it doesn't get fixed.  It doesn't get fixed because this staff doesn't recruit well enough to get it fixed.

I'm having a hard time understanding how, based solely on last night's game, anyone could think Hubert sucks.

as pete said, i don't see how any non-Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) could draw any conclusions about the offensive skill players

Every chance Hubert had to take advantage of the space he had, he always failed. All of the backs did.

Maybe it's the fact that he's a lazy pos and didn't start working hard until camp, where as the other running backs worked hard since the bowl game. If you think Hubert is going to have the most carries on this team at the end of the season then you're clearly mistaken.
