Anyone familiar with IBC 2000

not sure where you live, but pretty certain nobody is still on the 2000 IBC

If it's a commercial kitchen you need makeup air. Slightly less than the amount being exhausted to keep a little negative pressure in the kitchen. Not required in residential.

Edit: That's per 2006 IMC which will trump 2000 anyway.

Well what if the building is a 19 story high rise that was converted to residential in 2004?
