I read on CNBC where UT has discounted non-con games this year as well.  With our bad team, the economy is a killer - football is expensive.  Nothing wrong with groupon to fill some seats.

Guys, i'm ashamed to admit this but I spent my bi-monthly commission check on 250 of the Groupon ticket packages, just to make KU fans look bad.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

Why not just take the direct approach and lower the price of tickets and then marketing that fact?

As smart people like me said for years, there's no profit in beaming with pride about the fact that you're charging $35-$45-$55 plus dollars for seats that sit empty for 80% of the games.    Finally we got a smart AD, who likely did very simple thing and that's got into the ticket management system and have it spit out a report on seats that were empty more times than not, and then putting together a ticket plan that put butts in those seats.

I wonder if UT's discount is 60% as well.....

....and offered on a website for discount restaurant vouchers.

Must have had a good response after the first time around.  Found this in my email this morning.

http://www.groupon.com/deals/gl-university-of-kansas?c=button&utm_medium=email&sid=11012239&utm_campaign=gl-university-of-kansas&division=kansas-city&s=body&p=5&date=20111104&utm_source=newsletter&utm_content=all-deals_kansas-city&addxe=dG9kZC53aWxsaWFtc0BteS5jbGV2ZWxhbmQuZWR1&user=5887bd6d7d42d3865fa655d2f134688fdaaf8852eb234453496cc8f1a3437a77

In the animal kingdom, football is played with cheetah running backs, buffalo linemen, and a seagull that is forced to curl up and act as the ball. Catch humanity's version of the animals' gridiron gallantry with today's GrouponLive deal for tickets to see a University of Kansas football game against Baylor at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence on Saturday, November 12, at 1 p.m. Groupons should be redeemed for tickets at will call starting at 10 a.m. on game day. Choose between the following options:

    * For $25, you get one ticket for tier 2 seating (a $60 value in advance, a $65 value on game day).
    * For $95, you get four tickets for tier 2 seating (a $240 value in advance, a $260 value on game day).

Gather on beautiful Campanile Hill for the final home game of the season and enjoy all the memorable moments of a Gameday in Lawrence. Groupon holders can wave the wheat from tier 2 seats near each end zone, causing Big 12 rivals to daydream about pancakes instead of catching the ball. Senior linebacker Steven Johnson leads the Big 12 and ranks fifth nationally in tackles. Senior tight end Tim Biere leads the team in receptions and was named to the Phil Steele Mid-Season All-Big 12 team and the Mackey Award List. Both athletes, along with the rest of the Jayhawks, face formidable foes in the Baylor Bears. The ursine rivals bring savage players such as junior quarterback Robert Griffin III, a semifinalist for the 2011 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and finalist for the Unitas Golden Arm Award, which preserves the winning limb in a cast of delicious honey.

Memorial Stadium welcomes up to 50,071 guests with 91 seasons of gridiron history and a new, 28’x85’ LED video board. Fans can tailgate on Campanile Hill before the game, then celebrate Rock Chalk Saturdays by belting out the Rock Chalk chant and performing fight-song drum solos with freshly chalked pool cues.

The register lady gave me my change, 4 cents, but I just put it in the take a penny tray. I also put the free ku tickets in there.

The great thing is that Groupon usually gets half of these deals.  Congrats on the 12.50 a ticket KU!
