Football practice nuggets

from my friend john.

Quote
Hey guys!
I hope all is well. I got to sit through the afternoon practice yesterday, because I helped with the KanEquip watermelon feed again this year. There were no huge revelations, but I thought you guys might like a few of the observations as I know info is hard to come by this time of year. See you in 18 days!

QBs
1st team snaps ? Klein 90%, Lamur 10%, Tuggle 0%
2nd team snaps ? Lamur 100%
3rd team snaps ? Tuggle 75%, Sam Johnson 25%

Klein looked confident, sharp, and in control. It was clear that he was the team leader. Not nearly the amount of passing that we saw in the spring game. Lots of option/QB reads, with a few downfield passing looks. He did a nice job of getting of the TE’s involved straight up the seams. He called several audibles, but we have also brought back the “check with me” signals from the sideline process that we had used for years.
Lamur looked as if he hasn’t improved since last year. Really erratic throwing the ball (think “Wild Thing” from Major League erratic). Held the ball way too long. Couldn’t make decisions.
Tuggle physically looked the part and played fine. He was not getting the attention of the staff. Surprised to see that he was not being worked in at all with at least the two’s.

RBs
1st team snaps ? Pease 33%, Rose 33%, Hubert 33%
2nd team snaps ? Pease 33%, Rose 33%, Hubert 33%
3rd team snaps ? 50% Brown, 50% other no names that I couldn’t identify

Brown was working hard, but got nothing but chewings from the staff. Looks like he is going to get ridden hard.

Demarcus Robinson was injured and sat out all of practice. Heavily taped right ankle.

Nobody on the ground (other than Klein) looked impressive. They were getting stopped in the backfield frequently. I want to believe that means that our DL is that much improved, but I’m guessing that’s not the case.

WRs
1st team ? Any combination of B Smith, C Harper, Sheldon Smith, & Tyler Lockett
2nd team ? Tyler Lockett, Cole Bachamp, Torell Miller

Tramaine Thompson sat out all of practice with an injury. Couldn’t tell what it was.

Tyler Lockett looks really good! I think that they are going to have a hard time redshirting him. Closer to Kevin’s size, good hands, and plenty of speed to burn. He got plenty of time with the 1st team. I’d be interested to see if that would have been the case had Thompson been playing.

LBs
E Lamur, A Brown, and Trey Walker took every snap with the 1st team. They looked solid and quick. A Brown didn’t look as big as I would of imagined.

DBs
David Garrett, 1st team Left Corner, Kip Daily 1st team Right corner. Both looked very good.
Tysn Hartman and Ty Zimmerman took all of the 1st team snaps at safety.

OL/DL
There are so many new names and numbers in these groups that it was difficult for me to keep up. Nobody stood out too much for any reason.

Wouldn't he still be practicing, though? It seems kind of early to have a dedicated scout team put together that runs the other teams' playbooks.

I think there would be a scout team by this point.

Yeah, you're probably right. I guess the season does start in a little more than 2 weeks.

What are you talking about? Fatty's post at the top of this thread tells you Bryce is getting 3rd team carries and also tells you Thompson is injured. We told you nothing.
