ACT

Another blow to KU football. Dreamius Smith, Wichita RB, has failed ACT too many times. Off to Juco after attending summer classes at KU.

How low does your score have to be to "fail" the ACT?  Like, 0?

I used to clerk at my high school's Academic Advisory office and the lowest one I ever saw was a 13.

The ACT isn't really a pass fail type test.  I'd guess to gain admission into KU (as an athlete), you'd need at least a 16 or 17.

Graduates of accredited high schools must meet one of the following three requirements
Achieve an ACT score of 21 or higher OR
Rank in the top 1/3 of the class in the 7th or 8th semester OR
Achieve a 2.0 or higher on the precollege curriculum

SO: ACT doesn't matter in the least (aside from merit scholarships, etc.) if you have a C average in high school, or finish in the top third of your class in either the first or second semester of your senior year.

That's just for normal students. Do athletes have to meet that same standard?

Yeah, you have to meet the requirements for the school but they may be different than what the NCAA requires.  The NCAA uses a sliding scale based on your GPA.  For example, if you carry a 3.55 or higher, you only need a 37 (composite) ACT score.  The lower your GPA, the higher the ACT score you need.

Combo of the individual scores- math, reading, science... I think there's a fourth?  Can't remember, I took the ACT a long time ago.

Also, composite may not have been the right word to use.  :drink:

amazing that he was able to get such good grades and yet fail the ACT so miserably and so many times.  what a weird dichotomy in knowledge.  i'm shocked.

When I was in the 7th grade, I got a letter from Duke inviting me to take the ACT. I took it and scored a 21. My parents were so proud. I bet they were way prouder than Dreamius Smith's parents.
