Important Questions
« on: July 09, 2011, 05:11:01 PM »
I'll go first.

You are in an out-of-town brunch buffet of local renown.  You are seated by the host and your "server" comes up to take your drink orders, read the specials and mention that you may order off the menu or, as is tradition, make use of the much loved brunch buffet.  He wraps these options up with the phrase "whatever blows your hair back."  Everyone chooses the buffet and gets coffee and drinks (mimosas and Bloody Mary's).  Do you tip 20% here?

You're from K-State right?  :kstategrad:
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

My usual tip is 20-30%.  But this is a unique situation.  This is a buffet, but the server brought 3 drinks per person for a table of four.  He also said "whatever blows your hair back."

In Kansas, 15% max.  In Orange County, 20% max.  I tip in line with local economic situations.

I always try and put myself in the position of the server ( yeah right,).  Walk a mile in his moccasins to be more precise?  I mean the guy doesn't have a chance in life and I also think that "whatever blows your hair back" is kind of catchy? :dunno:

Yeah, I mean we used it probably 5 more times that weekend and here I am still stealing his line.  I think I under tipped.

Depends on whether you pay at the table or at a cash register on your way out.

If they bring you the ticket, take your card, and return the ticket with a place for tip, you should tip.  how much is your call (not more than 20% unless they brought you free crap, brunch is almost always overpriced and never very good so your overtipping no matter what).

If you have to wait in line at a cash register to pay, throw a $1 and whatever change is in your pocket on the table for the bus boy.  If you're one of these weirdos that doesn't ever carry cash, you have a built-in excuse not to tip, use it.

You give bad tipping advice.

Bringing drinks out is not tough. Servers do almost nothing at buffets, regardless of how many drinks you get.
