What is the purpose?

Prevent sunburn.  The guys at the forum on www.drakemag.com love them. 

The idea is a lot of fishing guides in the western US spent 200+ days a year on the water.  They get a lot of sun, so they started using these buffs.  These guys that want to really be hardcore fish bums caught on now the weekend warriors are wearing them, too.  Like I said, I think it's fashion.  I've been west or to the tropics fishing a week at a time and I never burn.

I guess it would make sense if you are a deep sea fishing guide. If you wore one of those thing down on the Kaw I reckon dem good ole boys would mock you endlessly.

Actually ran into 3 good ole boys on friday night when I was fishing the kaw from the bank. They looked so much like west virginians it was hilarious and I could barely contain my laughter. They were all probably 30-40 and were wearing Headlamps walking along the bank, their ringleader was wearing jorts and a cut off tshirt while rocking a really disgusting goatee.

They all loved lady. She's my guard dog when I'm out there, kind of looks like a small pit at first glance so people dont get any funny idea's about ruffin up the city boy.

Fished indian crick today after work and caught some decent sized bass.  1 small catfish as well

Also saw a snake! Can't wait for sys to identify it for me!

  That's appropriate river fishing attire but I never wear a headlamp,catlike night vision here

Anyone taking advantage of the limited Kansas noodlin' season?

Noodling, Kansas style

It’s noodling time in Kansas.

Noodling is that All-American hillbilly sport made famous in Oklahoma where fishermen hold their breath, go under water and find catfish holes in the bank, then try to wrestle the big ones out by hand.

Kansas has a limited version of that activity. The only areas where noodling is legal are the entire length of the Arkansas River, all federal reservoirs from beyond 150 yards of the dam to the upstream end of the federal property, and the Kansas River from its origin downstream to its confluence with the Missouri River. Fishermen must buy a special handfishing permit, which costs $27.50, to participate.

The Kansas season opened June 15 and will continue through Aug. 31

Pounded some light domestic lager with a bro and fished the kaw tonight (longest amount of sunlight of any day). Caught a couple flathead on worms and blue gill chunks.

 Nice flathead benji.

Hit a local watershed early this AM...on the water before 6am. One of my favorite spots to fish.  Good population of bass and the fish are always nice and healthy.

Caught about 30 bass...most in the 1 1/2 to 2 lb range.
