Flint hills pond in Wabaunsee county. The renter threw a line in while checking cows last week.

That’s an absolute beast, Tom.

Went out to my friend’s local pond on Friday night. Ran into some trouble with weeds around the edge of the pond: lures with exposed hooks got snagged in the weeds. We had this weedless frog that the bass kept nibbling on but they would let go before the kids set the hook. Great night to be outside, anyway.

My 12 year old has declared he is "just the better fisherman" after catching his first big bass when his cast to the same lay down I had just caught a typical 12" fish from results in this big girl

So this may have been discussed, but since I don't want to read the whole thread...

Is there an app that shows specific recommended GPS locations to fish? Basically so if you're in an unfamiliar area, you can see specific places at local lakes/rivers that are good places to try.

Pulled in a few coho salmon this am/afternoon about 5 miles out from where the Columbia River empties into the Pacific. Docked at Seaside, Oregon.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

the Navionics app used to do what you are looking for but it takes a subscription

You could also look for the old paper Hot Maps from the pre smart phone era like this

There's an app called fishbrain that is kind of like this.

Question for the fishing pros:  is there any fresh water situation where a good Zebco spincast reel (like an Omega) wouldn’t be perfectly fine?

Maybe if you are targeting larger 5+ lb fish but you should be good. I haven't had a zebco reel since I was a kid but I'm a big fan of open faced spincast reels since its so easy to avoid tangles and also switch out the line for heavier test.

Whatever you do DONT fall for the lies from BIG BAITCAST REEL. Like sure if you are a professional fisherman go baitcast away but there is no need for MN Pete who goes fishing a couple of times a week in the summer to get a fancy baitcast rod n reel. You will spend half of your fishing time untangling giant bird nests in your reel instead of fishing.

Yeah I learned the bait cast lesson the hard way when I was a kid fishing farm ponds. No way Jose. Not for me.

I think I might end up just buying a few higher end zebco reels and put different lines on them.

benji has you on the right path with using spinning reels - if there are pike and muskie in your lake you can use 50 lb braided line on sub $100 Shimano reels and be prepared for a big fish without spending a ton of money.

Our lake is smaller, and I won't get into anything that big.  Probably just need 10-12 pound line at the most. We have walleye, norther, bass, crappie, perch, and sunnies.  I I have read a little bit, but don't have practical experience on whether to use braided or monofilament or fluorocarbon or whatever.  50% of time I'll be casting/trolling and 50% jigging, I suspect. That's partly why I am leading toward just buying several spincast zebco canister reels and put them on different rods so I have pre-setup stuff for different goals.
