Crappie are spawning at hillsdale, fished for a little over an hour last night around sunset and caught 4.

How deep are they would you say? Moved into super shallow water or not yet?

Then this afternoon I rolled into the Valentine National Refuge in the Sand Hills of NE and found the Honey Hole of all Honey Holes.

The outlet from a lake was a mini rocky ford or pillsbury type situation, water falls and makes a narrow rapids where big fish ambush little fish. I've been preparing for this all my life.

First fish in that honey hole was the biggest bass I've ever caught in my life. (Released it)

Then I caught a PIKE, no not that silly wannabe firefighter frat, PIKE the fish.

My lure is still in his mouth since they have gnarly teeth, will remove it tomorrow after i clean it.

This was all out of a 5 ft wide creek/lake outlet.

Went fishing at Milford on Monday. Didn't have much luck until about an hour before we turned in, then the fish started jumping. Caught about 30 white bass and wipers between three of us. Lots of fun.

Tell me more. I only spent 2 days at buffalo berry campground and am planning to come back next year.

I want to take one of those guided driftboat tours next year.

Just got back from Montana.  I fished the Madison, Yellowstone and Gallitin.  After catching some Cutthroat, Rainbow and Brownies I have the fever gentleman! :excited: :excited:
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

I drove by Walter F. George Lake often times referred to as Lake Eufaula on the GA-AL border the other day.     I saw an article that said they had a one day bass tourney there a few weeks back and 28th place caught 18 pounds (5 fish limit).

Quick question- do you need a fishing license to fish under the bridge on the way in to manhattan or along a river or only in state parks and such?

Yes. They're like twenty bucks.

i'm mostly a fishing idiot and just flyfish. family just met up for my dad's 65th birthday.  we split time between the alcova and saratoga areas, had both pontoon boats and a hard side drift boat and would just shuttle a vehicle 10-15mi downstream in the morning and then floated it.  streamer fishing kinda sucked, nymphing worked well.  i drank a shitload of beer and smoked too many cigars and luckily didn't get sunburned.  it was very relaxing, except the flows were up a bit and i had to work more than usual to not run into trees and crap

I'm assuming that the place you stayed at provided the drift boats? What was the name of the place?

I was right by Alcova and stopped in at Sloanes General store at least once a day.

we actually brought all our own stuff (well, my brother and uncle mostly), so didn't really rent anything or whatever... sloane's the one with the ice cream and the random cigarette counter off by its own?  we just stayed at a basic BLM camp site (upper right star, Golden Currant maybe?), would drop off boats at Gray Reef dam (lower left star), and then shuttle pickup vehicle back to Government Bridge or wherever we planned to take out that day.  fishing wasn't great while we there and it was hot as hell and not generally fun so we cut that portion of the trip short after a few days and went back to saratoga (spent a few days there earlier in the trip on more 'family-friendly' stuff than fishing all day).  much cooler, much more interesting floats, and fishing was better there (which sounds like it was maybe unusual).  same deal there - just slept in tents at a campsite and shuttled back/forth.
