So do you throw it back to let him finish his meal, or toss that puppy high on the bank out of spite?

The injury probably happened last summer, fish was doing fine, in fact it put up quite the fight.

I threw it back in to keep on living life.

The spine runs down the middle of the body of a largemouth (and most other fish), basically just underneath the dark splotches on the side of the fish.

Went to my buddy's dad's farm pond this morning and caught a mess of fish.

First couple of casts resulted in fish, just a great time.

No huge LUNKERS but i did clean all those fish and will fry them up tomorrow.

I assume you are talking about which knot to use.

This is a quick one I've always used with jigs/lures that doesn't seem to slip or come out.

I prefer this one with live bait hooks, especially heavy line for bigger catfish.

yeah,

I'm not a good knot tie'er.

Will be teaching my daughter how to fish this summer.  probably worms to start for her.

I used to fish quite a bit in farm ponds and don't have a ton of experience tying jigs and such.

Just use the trilene knot above. Easy, quick, and strong knot.

Make sure you get the slack out, though.  If not, it can come undone easily.

That Trilene knot is one step harder than an improved clinch, a tried and true knot that I've used my entire life.

Good point.

After I loop, twist, thread back through I usually lick the knot. Then I grab the hook and main line with my hands and the excess line with my teeth and pull on all three. Then clip off the extra with fishing clippers. Just be careful not to hook yourself. :D

Probably doesn't make a ton of difference, but I think the extra loop strengthens the knot and prevents slippage.

I don't use the extra loop either, witch may explain the slack thing I commented on earlier.  :dunno:

you probably have him take the fish off the hook for you too, and then re-bait it
