Earlier this week I got a HOT HOT fishing tip from a co-worker along the marais des cygnes river in osawatomie ks.

Loading Lady up in the car right now and heading down there, stopping to get some minnows along the way. I'm probably gonna catch like 10 catfish and maybe some wipers or white bass and possibly some crappie and its just gonna be wonderful!!!

Yes!

Not to brag, but I'm pretty darn good at simulating catfish sounds. We also caught 3 more between 2 and 5 pounds.

We had 3 poles set on the river with goldfish as bait. One was a vintage Penn reel from the 60s with the bait clicker on. About 10 o'clock it took off with a Zzzzzzz and he picked it up and got it in after about a 5 minute fight. I caught the 10 pounder at the same spot 2 weeks ago, also on goldfish.

Yes, I cleaned them and we will have a big fish fry.

If you trim the skin off, cut them into chunks, make a good beer batter, fry them up, and serve with good tartar sauce, hot sauce, and/or malt vinegar I think they are very tasty.

That's cool. I don't begrudge you for keeping/killing/eating them. I've eaten lots of stuff that I didn't think tasted good but I had killed it and I knew it provided me nourishment and it was fun killing it.

This is why I thought I hated "seafood" until I went out to the Pac NW. Halibut, sprinkled w/salt and pepper, grilled, served with lemon slice.

I like that kind of fish too. In Kansas I'd prefer more mild fish like crappie or walleye, but some fried catfish nuggets at a fish fry once in while is pretty darn good. JMHO.

_Fan why did your son not reel in multiple 30 pounders? Last month when I did that it was literally the first time I've ever caught a fish. Total beginner. Is that not what most people routinely catch?

The1BigWillie and I will be slaughtering some fish tonight at mize lake in olathe.

We plan to answer the age old question....Which is the best catfish bait, chicken liver (packaged in gauze) or pieces of fresh cut bluegill?

I will be working with the fresh cut bluegill while The1BigWillie is confident his gauze wrapped chicken livers will win the day.
