Went out to my buddies farm pond last week but the water was still too cold and we only caught 1 fish which didnt even fight.

Headed out to the kaw now to see if any catfish are HUNGRY for chicken liver!

ben ji - I've tried a couple of small ponds and have not had any luck. These fish were in a small (240ish acres?) lake up a creek arm in 3-4 feet of water. Seems like if they are going in a lake, small ponds would be good now.

@benji whenever I cross over "the Kaw" on 435N I always look down to see that water ripping and see if anyone is fishing. Seems like a scary/gross place to fish. You're like the Mike Rowe of fishermen.

hey ben ji, how does lady react to you casting a line? took my dog fishing once out at clinton, and whenever someone would cast, she would jump in the lake and try to catch it so i eventually had to tie her up (and then she totally got mud all over this one guy who i don't really like and it was super funny

)

When I have a big ole chunk of chicken liver or something on a line she will bark at it and think she gets to play fetch but will never actually chase it into the water, prob because she is not a very good swimmer.

PRO-TIP FOR EVERY gE'r WHO ENJOYS FISHING

There are public access farm ponds all over the state thanks to the F.I.S.H. program initiated by the KDWPT.

I recommend picking up a copy of the 2014 Fishing Atlas at your local Wallys when you re-new your license, or you can just find one here

Look for the area's in the little blue squares, these are the farm ponds that the state of KS has leased from private owners.

I checked out a couple in Leavenworth County today and WOW! One was just loaded with lunkers.

When you drive down 219th st you will see a sign that looks like this

and a bridge over the fence that looks like this

Once you reach the pond you will catch lunkers like this

Yeah, dont fish there much anymore because it gets pretty crowded and I dont want lady running around in peoples business. I usually fish about .5 miles downstream from there or about 1.5 miles upstream just so I can let the dog run around and do her thing.

(And yes, it is very dirty down there)

River monsters is alright but I just wish he would spend the whole show catching monsters and less time on the buildup. I LOVE it when he is fighting a HUGE Nile Perch or Amazonian Monster in some small canoe, but hate the 45 minutes leading up to that point.

As for bait on the river, your best bet is going to be some cut baitfish(shad/bluegill/carp/whatever) but you can throw hot dogs on there if you are just looking for an excuse to makeout with your babe on the riverfront.
