The card companies make lots of serially numbered cards which are typically parallel sets of regular issued cards with slight variants of color scheme, etc.  Also almost all jersey swatch insert cards are serially numbered.  Most of these numbered cards are in the hundreds.  But if there was under a hundred produced, like say 50, 10, or 5, they will sell for a lot more money.  The rarest of course are the 1 of 1's.

1 of 1 cards often will pop up on Ebay soon after the new sets are released in a given year.  Because the person that gets it in a pack somewhere else in the U.S. will likely not be a huge fan of that player or school the player went to, they will put it up on Ebay to try to get the maximum price for it.  I have a couple of Darren Sproles cards I got that way which I can post pictures of sometime, but not now since I am busy and out of town.

Interesting.  I'm thinking that, regardless of the player/team, I would just hold on to any 1/1s that I came across.
