Was in vancouver in may can't wait to go back. Did you hit the suspension bridge area or grouse mountain beems?

Only stayed there for a couple nights.  Mostly just shopped in the downtown area and partied in Gastown.  I'm hoping to go back as soon as I get a chance, though.  It's about a 4 1/2 hour drive from Portland.

Fly?

Might actually take the light rail next time. I actually kind of enjoy the drive through the evergreen forests and mountains in the Northwest, though.
I hate to break it to you, amigo, but you can't take light rail from Portland to Vancouver.   You can take light rail from one end of Portland to the other, though.  Maybe you mean Amtrak (?).  I'll try not to form any judgments about the extent to which your time at Wave the Wheat U may have limited your awareness of common modes of public transportation.  While my K-State bros and I are planning our escapes from "Stumptown" (or, as I like to call it, "Flanneltown USA, population white million"), you're enjoying the heck out of this place.  Good on you, friend, for reminding us that people with more limited experiences can find a small, dank, under-the-radar city like Portland so endlessly fascinating.

Sorry... the correct term would be "high-speed rail."  You can take the foot off of the pretentious douchebag pedal now, bro.

Actually, the correct term might be something like "regular-speed rail."  Pretty sure you can't take high-speed rail from Portland to Vancouver...or Portland to anywhere.  That $590-million project was announced about 18 months ago.  Would be a pretty impressive upgrade if already completed.  When done, it will go from a 3-3.5-hour trip (max speed of 79 mph) to a 2.5-hour trip.  Slightly faster than driving.  Yawn.

Also...my effing handle is TheProdigiousTalent.  Do you honestly expect me to be anything other than a pretentious douchebag?

Light rail = high speed rail?
. He's inferring that Amtrak is high speed rail.

Amtrak has placed a large crown between the rails so that their trains are always running down hill

It's hell on the defense when they run the option.
