I'm actually thinking about remodeling my kitchen and making my own cabinets. Not really interested in paying someone 10's of thousands of dollars to make plywood boxes for me (unlike SD). Especially when I'm more than able to do it (unlike SD).

the rest of the table hates you when you split up the tab everytime the bill comes

With food I usually go all out. I can build quality things. I can't cook quality things (sans pizza [see pizza thread]). I'm only cheap when I can make things or do things myself. Lets me buy better materials. I just remodeled my bathroom. I put in $14/s.f. tile. You've probably never smelled $14/s.f. tile.

I'm proud to say that I have no rough ridin' clue what $14/s.f. tile means and, god willing, never will.

$14 per square foot. What you have in your house is $2 per square foot.

so you are non-frugal on tile then?  I'm kind of confused by your construction guy talking point.

I never try on like 70% of my clothes.  (Suit and dress stuff aside.)  I just order it online or just buy it without trying it on.  Have an entire section of my closet that is entirely stuff that doesn't fit the way I like.  Still has the tags hanging.  Guess I should exchange some of it or something.

Think he is saying, you are paying $14 per square foot of tile and getting crappy tile, where he is paying $14 per square foot of tile and getting amazing tile.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

I usually try to find weird substitutes for things and make them work. Like the concrete countertop. I have no problem buying granite, but it's almost a challenge to make things work that are cheap. It usually turns out pretty unique and better than the standard. I'm also incredibly frugal with labor. I can't do plumbing. So I paid a guy $250 to do my entire bathroom in copper. He was there for 2 days. Not sure how he agreed to work for that cheap.

Also, I'm cheap with things like cable. I don't watch enough TV to warrant it so I hate paying $160 for my wife to watch food network all damn day.

 :gocho: I got this.

I'm putting a backsplash up behind the concrete countertop on the work bench. I'm putting up corrugated metal panels. That crap is magnetic, washable, and $6 per panel at home depot. eff yeah.

I pay $60 for internet, cable, and HD DVR. I think Comcast's normal prices are in the $130 range. I have to call and bitch at them every 6 months to get special rates. The $160 is an exaggeration. No need to nit pick, francis.

I HATE moving.   HATE IT   :shakesfist:
I'm guessing steve dave hires movers.

moving sucks even with movers. HOWEVER, paying for movers is completely worth it. Especially having them pack everything in boxes for you. And it's a lot cheaper than you'd think..

I do this too.  Hate shopping in person(for losers).  I buy from the comfort of my summer house deck and if it doesn't fit/feel the way I like, I usually drop it off at good will.  Wife hates this.

Paying the extra $ for brand name food/medicine/etc? No, denied

Depends. If it's between name brand and Kroger. Kroger all the way.
If it's between name brand and that Best Choice garbage. Un-frugal plz.

Yeah, my wife calls me a tight ass for buying Kroger brand food, but I really like it, and I'd actually be willing to pay a little bit more for it than some of the name brand food, depending on the item.

A lot of off brand stuff (especially Kroger and Hyvee store brand) is just extra inventory from name brand companies repackaged and sold at a lower cost because otherwise they'd just be throwing it out or tying up money they could be making (albeit at a lower profit margin). Except the Best Choice crap, that stuff is cheaply made.

I will never, under any circumstances, buy cereal in a bag.

Oh man, boxed cereal is totally un-frugal.  I hope you enjoy paying more for the cardboard box surrounding your bagged cereal which also creates the illusion you are getting more cereal to begin with.

False. The bagged cereal companies are way worse for you. They just add more and more sugar to get it to taste like the boxed stuff without adding any of the good stuff to it.

And SD, I totally agree about splitting tickets. When I see people getting change so they can pay the EXACT amount that they spent I want to hit them. You can round up 36 cents to the nearest whole dollar amount you noob. And your friend probably hates you for being such a tight ass.

you know what is the absolute worst?  the people you are with that take the bar/dinner tab and start breaking it down at the table to see exactly what portion of the check they owe.  GMAFB, you make roughly the same amount of money I do.  just cut it in half or I'll pay for the entire thing to save the rest of the table the humiliation of having you doing long division over the rough ridin' bill at our table.

These are the worst people on the planet.  "I didn't eat any of the appetizer and only had 2 beers so I owe this".  So glad I went to KSU and not KU and don't have to pinch my pennies, you know.

Had to punch a dude one time because he broke out the calculator on his to figure out his portion of the tab.  If he had used it to calculate his tip, I would have stabbed kin the eye with a fork.
