Kauai sounds like it might be for us. Kids are 8 so we want things for them to do while Mrs. SF and I sit on the beach or by the pool and drink. Good restaurants there as well? TIA
There are a few but nothing like Oahu or Maui. But, with an 8 year old, wgaf.

Thanks. This Hyatt resort also seems nicer than the Marriott resorts popping up in my limited searching so far. Some of the Sheraton/Marriott resorts look a bit janky. I'd prefer to use Marriott points, but whatevs.

There are a couple nice restaurants on/close to the resort. Tide pools on resort and Eating House 1849 a couple miles up the road. I wouldn't say the island is generally known for fine dining though. Plenty of decent spots to eat though.

Thanks for the info guys. The Hyatt looks great and I was ready to book it until I found out how much of a pain in the balls it is to get to and from Hawaii (mostly from). I'm probably passing.

Yeah, the trip back is miserable. No way to sugar coat it.

I was not a fan of the trip to/from hawaii either and I left from the west coast.  I just go to Mexico now for beaches.

All of the flights back are overnight or you fly back to CA and then leave the next day. All that seems rough with young kids. Still debating.

Any good resort recommendations for kids? Nicer ones that won't get us murdered?

Oh man. I sleep like a baby on them. I can fall asleep right at takeoff and have someone nudge me to deplane. Its great.....Not so great with young kids though.

I can't imagine doing it in coach or coach+.  Friends on the trip did and said it wasn't horrible but they said they won't do it again in the back of the plane.

I can't sleep on planes either, in coach. I've only flown in lay flat seats a couple times and I was able to sleep a bit.  In coach I can maybe, MAYBE, get some version of half asleep coma thing going for an hour or so, but I usually end up watching movies the entire time. I once watched 5 movies in a row on a flight home from Africa.  That was zero fun.
