just got back from a spicy tour of the northeast:

How was Maine? Did you talk to any locals about the Blazers?
Maine was cool.  Not a lot to do there this time of year other than learn history stuff and look at lighthouses and whatnot.  Too cold for the beaches to be open.  But definitely a pretty area.  Some pics:

The rooms and location of this place are pretty great, but the lobby is completely hilarious.  It has ground floor commercial space that shares a parking lot which is normal, but they all have windows/doors that share the lobby space and so you have guests meandering around in their swimsuits/towels to/from the hot tubs less than 25 feet away from these businesses.

Also, the stair situation at this place is something.

The floor outside of the Subway looks like the kind of floor I'd expect to see inside a Subway, but the floor that is actually inside the Subway is not that same Subway-lookin' floor. Wow!

That is a great question.  I don’t really know how to answer it because we left at 4am so we experienced very little traffic, but we also stopped more frequently and longer than most other travelers would.  So it was like 10 hours. But we stopped for a meal.

Given the size and ages of the traveling party, that is better than I would've expected

Yeah, the DVD player and the 4am departure time are pretty crucial.  Only better leave time for us is like 5 pm for a long haul overnight.

It took us far too long to figure out to do a good portion of the driving late at night.

Good job, dlew, on pics that look like they should be in a wall calendar.

Good job, kk, on Subway and funky lobby.

UPDATE: Went to Hanauma Bay. Did not find @KK's wedding ring. Sorry, KK.

Did see tons of fish and had a tiny coral cut on my leg that bled everywhere and really impressed the kids when I didn't notice it. Five stars.

just got back from a spicy tour of the northeast:

Flew into Boston
Drive to Newport, RI -> two nights
Drive back to Boston ->1 day
Drive to Cape Neddick, ME -> 1 night
Drive to Portland, ME -> 1 night
Drive back to Boston -> 1 night

Spent time in Martha's Vineyard and Salem also.

Love this, should have replaced Newport with Mt. Washington and North Conway, NH.

This is absolutely the best time to do New England. You don't want to deal with the Massholes & New Yorkers later in the summer.

Yeah it was great.  The only problem was that, because we went before memorial day, a lot of the stuff wasn't open because "the season" hadn't started yet.  This was only really a problem at Martha's Vineyard.
