i'm sure there are probably a lot, but off the top of my head i can't think of a single fanbase that is more concerned with what other people say and think about them. a seventy year old combines ku and jayhawks and says kayhawks and it might as well be world war three in lawrence.

So you guys really can't see how using the word "gay" in a derogatory or demeaning fashion might be harmful to someone who's gay?  Anyone who does it is basically saying that being gay is inferior, or beneath them.

"g" and "k" are both considered velar plosives in the internation phonetic alphabet and thusly incapable of being perceived differently by "reading lips". in other words, they are produced in the exact same way with the only difference being that one is "voiced" (g) while the other is "unvoiced" (k). the difference between a voiced and unvoiced velar plosive is in the time that the vocal folds start to vibrate and probably somewhere around 50 milliseconds although i concede that last part is a ballpark guess.

the most logical guess is that he awkwardly combined ku with jayhawks and it came out "kayhawks". although i'm sure you'll never convince the overly dramatic and paranoid ku fanbase of that.

i think you are wrong about the whole voiced vs unvoiced thing but don't care and they probably more/less interchangeable. in the grand scheme of things, any logical person knows what happened. but you'll never convice 20,000 overly dramatic ku fans of it.

If Jack Harry had typed out the word "Gayhawks" for all to see then this would be an issue. He clearly slipped on his words, and it is uncertain whether he said "gayhawks" or "kayhawks". This is as big of a non-story as a non-story could be.

Jack Harry has made it eminently clear that he despises KU and its fans. He has done so on-air and with the approval of the station management whether explicitly stated or not. Therefore, given the context of Jack Harry's antipathy for KU and its fans, his use of the term "********" on the air is not just inflammatory, but quite believable. The failure of the station to correct the record with its own video of the broadcast is, in itself, damning evidence against both the station and Jack Harry personally. Until such time as you are able to present credible evidence that this did not happen, or you take action against Jack Harry consistent with his personal culpability, your FCC license should be suspended.
