Fuzzy's closed?  Bring back Hibachi Hut / Texas Star!!

No crap, can't believe it didn't make it. I remember having to wait at least a week or two after Dave's opened just so I didn't have to wait in line for an hour and a half. Of course that was like 15+ years ago! I know it's no Franklin's, but I remember it was pretty decent 'Q?

The location is awful.
barbecue pretty bad too

Facts, don't eat barbecue at a place that doesn't have a smoker. I've discovered that they're most likely precooked then boiled. :Yuck:

Heard a radio ad for Braum's while driving out of Manhattan last night, but a web search shows no sign of Braum's at all, what gives?

They announced that there will be a Braums built on Anderson and scenic. Kind of a weird place but ok whatever. That intersection will just keep getting busier so maybe it makes sense. The latest I heard was that there is currently a snag because Braun’s wants to put something like six signs on each side of their building but mhk code doesn’t allow for that many. Sounds like neither side is really just dropping their stance and that they are maybe in negotiations over it or something. They have even started building it yet.

Ricky D, have you tried the Jamaican food truck that parks around town? I caught it today in front of Orschelns. I had the jerk chicken with rice and peas. It was solid - better than Little Grill. Apparently they have oxtail on special every now and then. Thinking about trying Gyroville out tonight.

Yes I have! Yes it’s good. The Jamaican place in jc is even better though. True story. Also something called fat shack will be opening up in pita pit next month.

I believe you are referring to Negril Grill in JC. Fat Shack is going to be hilarious and fail miserably. Their veggie sandwich consists of fries, onion rings, and mozarella sticks. I'm sure TBT will love it because he loves Calios. Verdict on Gyroville = pretty good. It appears to be ran by the Dancing Ganesha/Suzette/Bombay Bites people but is also a franchise.

The keltic star never really pulled off the cheap aggieville drunk or authentic Irish place. Was it Irish? Or British? Or Scottish? nobody knows..  :sdeek:

Lack of support from the city. Terrible decisions made by the city. And to answer your K-State question...yes

what hasn't the city done to support aggieville, or decisions they should have made?  do the college kids not pack all these places on the weekends?

Well Celtic encompasses all of the British Isles. It was British/Irish Pub food - not a hard concept to wrap your head around. A lot of what I'm hearing is that it wasn't entirely a money issue as much as it was a owners were tired of working 80 hrs/week issue. I'm sure money had some to do with it because you don't just close a successful business out of nowhere.

They haven't updated anything in Aggieville (not even repairing the sidewalks) in over twenty years. There should have been a parking garage put in decades ago. They sold one of the biggest parking lots to a hotel company that has sat on the space for half a year now and are going to block off half of the major road (Bluemont) running by Aggieville for 1.5 years to build said hotel. It will likely force some businesses to close.

And to answer your second question...two nights a week doesn't cover the astronomical rents that these places pay. Honestly, Aggieville has been hurting since the 40% food sales law was eliminated.

how long does it take for rent prices to adjust to what is a clear lack of demand? i know there are tons of factors that i won't take the time to list.

Good question. I don't have the answer. For example: the building that 1863 is in is for sale for $2 million. That's four two bedroom lofts and two small retail spaces.

like, let's just get tons and tons of cheap shitty bars that can survive on two nights of slinging crispy boys per week. (non j-kaws tho)
