"Mainstream radio" yeah really awesome to pay the man to get satellite radio so I don't have to listen "mainstream radio". I could give a eff less if I heard a band before they make it big.

Been to lots of places with "great live music scenes" and realized that it was mostly a lot of very mediocre bands playing to really drunk people who thought it was great.

omaha supposedly has an elite music scene but it's just because of conor oberst.  the guy single handidly created and has sustained the "scene".

Love the crap outta that guy. SADDLE CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!

Dax nailed it.  If a band is worth a damn:
A) you've probably heard them on the radio
B) they are not playing at a college bar

Austin is alright, (not a college town, IMO) traffic sux...lots of hype.  I lived in Dallas liked it waaay better than Austin.  Just my opinion. :)

You couldn't be more wrong, honestly.  First of all, every band has to start somewhere.  Do you think the Rolling Stones started out playing in packed 30,000 seat concert halls?  Second, most of the music on mainstream radio is total garbage.

  It's 2011 Ben.   Internet, MP3's, IPOD's, home studios, CD Burners, Mobile Media, YouTube, Facebook etc. etc.

1965 . . .  a record label found you,  a label will even listen to your demo,  you could find enough money to get some studio time and enough money to have them even press your record,  you could find a DJamer who wasn't a complete bad person who would play your record on the air . . .

Really . . . Really?

Wow... great post.  All you did was show how much more competitive the music industry is today than it was in 1965, and yes, bands still have to start somewhere.

Okay . . . so, how many payola schemes do bands have to engage in today just to get on air??  Oh wait, they don't need the "air" anymore do they.

He's just going to hoop with his AAU team.  I'm sure you guys have all heard of the Topeka AAU team he played on.

I think you're confusing regional AAU tournaments with national AAU tournaments, or something.  It really doesn't take a whole lot to be an AAU team.

Well in the discussions about big time AAU ball and recruiting, you assured us you knew all about it because you played AAU ball.

Either you played in like 6th grade, or you are full of crap.

To be fair, Ben did just insinuate that he was an entire team.  Not sure if that matters or not.

Love these.
You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

I wish I didn't have to do them but sometimes you gotta keep a guy honest.
