Buy a bow tie and TownieCat will teach you how to tie it.

Do you know what looks good with a bow tie? A vest.

Thank you! Mrs Gooch gets it. Found a vest last night at JCP it said $80 on the tag and when I went to check out the cashier said "That'll be $43" So. . I didn't complain.  Then I swung by rue 21 and found some "going out" button downs for $7 each. I might need a fashion intervention guys. But I want to be a baller on a budget.

I'd recommend factory.jcrew.com but ain't no vests

Pants for a dark charcoal blazer.

Good reason not to get a gray blazer, especially dark gray. Not nearly as flexible as a blue blazer. With a lighter gray you could wear it with navy or black slacks, at least. But if it's too dark a gray, then you start running into the issue with navy and black of it looking like a mismatched suit. If it's that dark, though, then you could probably wear it with light gray slacks, especially if the material/texture also has some contrast to the blazer material. The right shade of khaki or brown (trickier) could work, too...and if you're a jeans with sportcoat kinda guy, then nice blue jeans could work.

Hope your vest works out, ydarg. If you're going to try to do a vest with a suit using a vest other than one made with the suit material as part of a three-piece, you can google image "odd vest suit" for some ideas. Easier to do an odd vest (term for a vest not made as part of a suit) with a less formal suit or sportcoat, though. Gotta avoid looking like you're headed to prom or a Men's Wearhouse wedding.

Also, whoever said to check out the big and tall tie section and tiebar.com was right on. Tie Bar has big and tall ties, BTW. And the ties are thick enough that the four-in-hand referenced by spracne won't look too asymmetrical, if you're not into that.

It looks good with jeans, I have a wedding coming up and I feel like it doesn't go with any pants.

Decided to give The Trunk Club a go. Figured I would see if it was any good. Will report findings.

I work in a jeans are OK office, and I usually wear jeans, desert boots (aka the most versatile piece of footwear) and a plaid or solid shirt untucked. But I may be taking a new job with the company where I'll be in lots of meetings with people above me who would probably not be caught dead in jeans and an untucked shirt (we're only a few years removed from allowing jeans on FRIDAY). If I just tuck the shirt in, am I good to go? I really don't want non-jeans or Brooks Brothers parachute shirts.

This sounds pretty much like my day to day garb, but instead of jeans I where khaki's or chinos and tuck in the shirt. Boom. Professional.

Almost pulled the trigger on this a few weeks ago, but couldn't quite do it. Will be interested to hear howt it goes...

I'll just try tucking the shirt into jeans on "meeting days" or something.

thanks for letting me talk this out, folks.

If I just tuck the shirt in, am I good to go?

No.

I'm pretty sure I am.

One tricky part is most of the executives are women in this company.

Just my opinion, but tucked in shirts to jeans looks real dumb.

I'm not real sure, because like I said there aren't a lot of men and I can't gauge how casual women's clothing is. Lots are older so lots of bad khakis. Also I don't pay much attention to things.

Could send a mass e-mail asking what everyone is going to wear.  Pretend that you're just asking so that you don't wear the same thing.

I know most men a level above me do jeans with shirts tucked. Maybe I could just be bold and young and let my freak flag (aka shirt tails) fly.
