I think every situation is different for everyone. It could just be my impression, but people just seem to ignore this regarding parenting and make more blanket statements about parenting than other things. Don't know.

Yeah probably. Also, here's this.

OT: Home Phone??

So we are relocating to Johnson County for work and this time around we are thinking of not getting a home phone with our Cable/Internet package.  Currently, looking a UVerse as the provider.  Does not having a home phone sound crazy?? Opinions on this and the Uverse service??

There's no way I could be a parent at this stage in my life. Like 0% chance of being successful at it.

A lot of these young kids today seem to be thinking otherwise. :cyclist:

i have a hard time believing that people have home phones anymore.  Just blows my mind.  Found out my in-laws have a home phone.  Why?  The both have cell phones.  My grandparents are mid-80's and ditched their home phone a decade ago.

People without kids really shouldn't be trying to give parenting advice, FYI.

They can do whatever they want, but they should know it makes them look super ignorant/Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).
I have kids, fyi

1. Brick home - get poor reception inside and my T-Mobile over wifi isn't as reliable as you may expect
2. kids.  don't want kids using my cell phone for calls with friends.

I, too, still have a home phone. Similar reasons to CNS. The only cell phone I have is through work, so I don't let my kids use that one. If my wife goes away for the weekend, then they couldn't use her phone, so they can use the land line. I ain't letting my kids have a cell phone until they are probably in 8th grade. They have ipods and crap, so they can text their friends. They don't need to call anyone from a mobile device (although they can do that from the ipod, I know, but only when they have wifi).

$75 a year for VOIP. Don't see the need to get our kids cell phones.

What if you need to send a facsimile transmission?

I received a message via fax yesterday. It wasn't a form or other kind of document that is normally faxed, but an actual message that someone typed and opted to send that way instead of by email.  :Ugh:

Did the message read:

"Hi Townie.  I hope you don't mind if I go ahead and steal this piece of paper from your printer."

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

If you have kids you should absolutely have a landline.  What if you need to call 911 and your battery is dead/left phone at work/can't find it?  In addition when you call from a home phone the address automatically pulls up for the 911 dispatcher which could be necessary if you are incapacitated and can't speak for some reason.
