Not BITB but fat petro has oscar as 8th best coach in big 12

When did he say this?  I've heard him say COY should be Self or Weber, with the advantage to Self.

"I’ve already taken e-mails from KSU fans about my belief that you need to win the conference to win the coach of the year award stance and I’m sure there are many more to come after my choice of Bill Self.  I have no problem with oscar Weber winning the Big XII award or if he ends up winning the AP award as well once the ballots are tallied (I expect him to win it)."

On the show this morning. Said there was huge gaps between number 1 (bill self) and number 2 (rick barnes) and then another huge gap between number 8 (oscar) and 9 (trent johnson). Said everyone 2-8 was pretty close, but had oscar at 8 saying "who is the only coach in the big 12 to get fired from a head coaching job?". Said that this list was based purely on ability to win basketball games and recruit talent.

It's possible that if Weber does well here another big shot program would take a chance on him.

Or another SEC bottom feeder.   :dubious:

oscar will either get fired here or retire here.

You don't think he'll get cherry picked somewhere else?

Very unlikely at his age (unless he pulls and Larranaga, which I don't expect). He'll be loyal to us as long as we're loyal to him, same as he was at Illinois. Plus he's set up here; brand new facilities, upgrades coming to the OOD, etc. Its not like he's going to get a much better job at this point in his career.

Huggins below Drew and Ford. That's not even good trolling.

The trolling is directed at KSU.  The rest of the list doesn't matter and he knows it.

Seems like Huggs will end up in the college HoF... I don't see Barnes, Ford, Mayor, or anyone else not named Bill Self or London Krueger being a better coach than Huggs.

Rick Barnes circa 2005 might have deserved that lofty ranking. But even from that historical perspective, what has he done Huggins hasn't?

It's a hard troll.  He'll tell you that OSU has much better talent than KSU, and in the same breath say that Travis Ford is a better coach than BW.  Yet, inexplicably, KSU is Champion.

Either really lucky or KSU was coached better.

Huggs and Barnes have had great careers.  Pretty safe to say they're both trending down hard right now.

Not BITB but fat petro has oscar as 8th best coach in big 12

If you don't slam K-State a little bit, especially right now, KU fans are turning the dial to 610.

There's a bit of a, "There, there...it will be alright," mentality in the KC media right now.  The KU butt hurt is EXTREMELY strong.

Nailed it.

The one thing Soren has right is that recruiting is a big part of coaching.  can't evaluate the worth of a coach w/o looking at his players.

i would tend to agree, and he did say that if oscar weber can recruit better here than he did at Illinois then he would climb up the list, but he was very unimpressed with weber's recruiting so far.
