If waiting a year gives us a better shot with Undy, let's go for it. Honestly, oscar isn't going to ruin the program.

Undy's going to get paid and his buyout will go up most likely.

His buyout was put at $6 mil this year for another Big 12 school because of K-State. I doubt it stays at that level, the likelyhood is that it will go down. After this season if anything he will get a year or two extension, but I doubt if OSU raises his salary yet.

How many more people stop giving a crap about K-state basketball, per day, as oscar remains the coach?

What is an acceptable amount?

You can find a good replacement if you really want to find a good replacement.

My thoughts on this are in line with why I feel now is a good time to get a very solid EMAW AD that's slightly more in tune with the coach centric administration we had prior to Currie.

We have a pres who isn't a little Napoleon and wants to treat the athletic department like his little playground, but we have an EMAW centric pres and I would like and EMAW centric AD for the time being to present K-State as a place that will support a coach and wants a long term relationship similar to the culture and feel of LHC Bill Snyder.

We have to be careful that we don't get a countertop polisher like Max Urick or a guy more worried about his deer stand or catching the last day of pheasant season, and those options are available.

IMO this is not a bad time for wagon circling as long as it's not too cloistered.   Some will disagree, which is cool.

Honestly, I'm not sure how much will change from now to a year from now. People like you haven't cared this year or for years. I think fans like you are a vast minority.

People like me are ready for a change now, but still follow more than most and won't cheer for K-State to lose. There will be come that won't renew season tickets, but I K-State has a stable base of fans to at least maintain what we had last year. We aren't even close to Asbury/Wooly level apathy yet. I understand that keeping a guy like oscar moves us a year closer to that, but I think we are still a long way away. If oscar sneaks into the tournament this year, that's even more likely.

Also, the AD situation changed the urgency for me. I think there is difficulty for us to hire a quality coach with an interim and I agree with Rusty that oscar is not going to ruin the program and change for the sake of change isn't always the best option especially if the Brad info on his buyout is true and we hire an AD that is attractive to Brad.

Underwood's contract buyout is $6 million next year, and then declines to $5 million the year after that until 2020, then goes to $4 million.  Damn!  Sure wish KK was correct about his assertion that it dropped to $2 million.

Either pay Brad's buyout or wait a year for the permanent AD.  A school like Kstate with our roster is not very attractive if the coach doesn't know who he will be working for.

And Pete, the final inflection point for fan interest was not getting Brad last spring - we have reached the floor.   There is still a cellar below where Asbury lived but Wade keeps us out of it for the next 2 years.

I think the entire dynamic of college sports in general and our fan base in particular has change a lot since the Asbury/Wooly era.

my goodness, brad underwood is at osu and paying his buyout is stupid.  he's not the only coach that can win at k-state and smart guys who get paid a lot of money should be able to find one that can.

as far as the underwood or bust fans here, get a hold of yourselves damn it

I'm guessing he meant that he has some reason to think the AD would be gone in a year, making the buyout go from 6 to 3, and then he exaggerated that down to 2.  Or he was just talking out of his ass.

Ideally we fire Oscar and hire a high risk/high reward assistant known for recruiting. If he's good, awesome, we keep him. If not we get rid of him and hope one of the situations that lowers Brad's buyout has happened and he walks into a team full of young, good recruits. Alright guys, let's make this happen.

You can't see that because this fan base is filled with the expectation that their athletic department can't/won't aspire to be something more than mediocre. Minnesota fired a coach who won a national championship after he WON a tournament game. Freaking Minnesota.

If our fans at some point stop feeling like we're less than, then we may not have to feel like we have to hire loser retreads. Just a thought.

I've been a K-State fan for 17 years, and I've seen one coach fired in MBB. That coach was retained after his 5th season with a 10th place finish in the league and no NIT bid. So even if the climate is different at K-State now (it is, drastically) I can only go on what I've seen. Its hard for me to see a clean program that improved from the previous season and makes the tourney having a coach fired at K-State.

We should hire Brad and tell him that he gets to pick the next AD.
