Think about it.  There is no other program in the conference who is a national power.  As much as we love whipping up on the Big XII every year, it would be nice to have a great team and LOSE the conference title from time to time.  We need the BIG XII teams to do a better job of preparing us and each other for the diverse types of ball played at a high level across the nation.

There is not consistent high-level coaching and talent at any other conference school.  There are no other "destination" programs for coaches in the conference.

The best thing for BIG XII basketball would be for Barnes to leave Tejas and be replaced with a great X & O's coach.

Maybe I just want to blame someone else for our woes.

By this logic the best course of action would be to strengthen the conference by inviting a few power houses like Bucknell, UNI and VCU.

Heck, UK should just do away with the conference all together and go independent, the SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big East and Pac 10 don't look any tougher right now.

Or maybe they could just play a tougher non-con.  :goodbyecruelworld:

If you look over the past 100 years, the only thing that prevents KU from being inarguably the greatest college hoops program of all time is NC's. They don't have quite as many as the handful of other schools claiming "elite" status. It's like looking at a beautiful woman with a pimple on her nose. The focus is on the pimple and not the overall picture.

In basketball, there's no feeling like winning it all but it kills me when people consider that crapshoot to be the ultimate factor to a successful season. A successful conference season means that you get at least one (2 most likely) games against more boring-ass mid major competition. It's nice to see a bracket open up like it did for the state of Kansas this year, but it also means that we have to sit through (and stress about) games against opponents you would typically turn down free tickets to see.

I yearn for the day when both sports let the 8-12 best teams fight it out in some kind of playoff. I'm dreaming though. In the meantime I'll sit back and wait for them to expand the tournament far enough to watch Houston Baptist and Presbyterian (or some other NAIA convert) cripple-fight for the right to make my eyes bleed when they square off against the Jayhawks.

It's like, unfortunately many think of tournament success as validation that our team is superior. Frankly our team this year like many KU teams before them was one of the elite teams and is better than the team that knocked them out.

Our progam is still amazing.  Yes, the regular season does mean something.  Last I looked we have won over 80% of the last conference titles.  That's right over 80% (17 of 21).  That is simply incredible INCREDIBLE!  Our team plays in the cathedral of all college basketball and have a history second to none.  Phog Allen is the father of basketball coaching.  For heaven sake, KU invented college basketball.  Read up on it. Allen was so insturmental in the development of the college game, it might not exist today or at least not as popular without his influence.  Many of the coaching ledges got their start at Kansas.

I mean, I'd like to see the tournament return to include only the conference champions of each Div I conference, double elimination, with a three game playoff for the two contending for the championship. If the teams weren't good enough to win their conference they shouldn't be given the opportunity to take all the marbles. That's what is wrong with all the conference tournaments too.  The NCAA is always trying to include losers by giving them a second chance to play their way in through a conference tournament and it happens quite frequently, especially in the mid-majors.  The NCAA needs to get back to picking a true champion by only playing those teams that have earned it throughout the season.

Fact is, a team like VCU who sucked that bad in the regular season doesn't deserve a chance to have a run in the NCAA tournament.  Gag.

Have turned down shitloads of free tickets to watch the squawks play in the barn. SHITLOADS!  Against BCS competition. 

The level of their delusion is near clinical.  :facepalm:

ku fans get better at this every year.  Some of them guys have it refined to a fine art.  It's like "Outliers" and they have spent 20,000 hours of whining/complaining/making excuses and now they are true masters of the craft.

Impressive to say the least.
