Athiests make it seem an awful lot like a religion.

one of my uncles is a recent Hitch disciple. he is on an evangelical tear like i've never seen. he is undoubtedly the most religious person in the family.

he would of course deny that. but his religiosity in promoting atheism and decrying religion (specifically christianity) is as zealous as any christian proselytizing i've ever experienced.

Westboro Baptist Athiests. Protesting nativity scenes and mormom retrobaptisms and crap.

God as soon as I moved to Mississippi the bible belt reared its ugly head.

Every week for 3 months 2 different people(probably around 30 different people) asked me where I went to church at, and then would tell me how awesome their church was and that I should come.

My go to answer was always "Ok I'll think about it" and I would just walk away.

One of my favorite past times here is to walk by those peoples offices talking to someone and right when I get to their office I stop and talk loud enough for them to hear me and say - "Praise Allah that this project came out ok!"

They won't talk to me for a week or two after I do that. Best crap ever.

Maybe you should try one of the churches just to see if you like it. Just to try it out. When I was a kid I hated tomatoes. Would not eat them. But now I love tomatoes and basically eat them non stop.  Food for thought.

that seems weird. do you have to keep some in your pocket just incase you want a snack?

You don't see the atheists preaching in Pat Bosco Plaza or handing out their mini anti-bibles on campus once a month or prophesying our doom on the street corner or going door to door asking about your relationship with Jesus Christ.

Never seen a billboard telling me that atheism is the answer, although I'm sure one exists someplace I've never been and someone will quote my post with a picture of it

I routinely see billboards telling me to repent of my sins, believe in Jesus, etc etc

Some of my bros got butthurt about my sister not getting married in the church.  It doesn't help that her husband comes to family gatherings and totally schools us about the bible.  Sparks fly when atheist bro and superchristian bro come together.

The internet is home to annoying atheists.  The real-world is home to annoying evangelicals.

I think the main difference is that at least a majority of the evangelicals I come in contact with seem sincere and caring (not to say there aren't extremists and whackos), while internet atheism seems unnecessarily petty and mean spirited.  I don't know if that has more to to with the internet or the people.  Some of the most ardent internet-atheists I know are pretty cool in real life.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Maybe they're tired of getting religion crammed down their throat since birth?  :dunno:

True story: no one has ever attempted to talk me into or out of a religion in my entire life.  Not once.

Do you feel as angry about that as I am that no gay guy has ever hit on me?

No, but I have been hit on by a number of gay gentlemen.  At the gym and at bars in undergrad and law school mostly.  It's pretty great.  Like thanks for the compliment guy.  It makes me wonder though whether it's just because they think I'm attractive or because maybe something about me makes them think I'm slutty.  :dunno:

Coincidentally, this was just tweeted by Smart Football.  I seriously hate these guys.  They're just awful.  I'm still not sure how representative of atheists they actually are.  Based on my experience, though, it seems pretty typical.

I have a similar uncle.  I have received a personalized bible for every birthday or other accomplishment that ppl give presents for.  Also, he used to randomly mail me somewhat large crosses.  Nicest guy in the family and surprisingly enough he never even mentions this stuff in person.  Just weird.

I was in an airport the other day waiting for my flight and this really old couple was seated across from me with a hard sided mini cooler. they popped it open and started going to town on hard boiled eggs. peeling and eating and peeling and eating. bet each of them took down 5 or 6 disposing of the shells back into their cooler. was really bizzare.

Not that anybody asked, but I object to religion in science classrooms not because it's religion but because it's not science.
