j rake, i doubt if the person means to insult you.  just email again asking if they got your previous email.  it may make the other person feel bad (turn the tables).  good luck.

Right, here's my thing: The people that don't reply to me in a timely fashion are always quick to exchange e-mails when they want something. I actually like helping people and doing favors, etc. I can't remember the last time someone asked me to do something and I didn't go out of my way to help them.

But it'd be nice if the people you help so often would reciprocate when you need them to return a favor.

i think you should lower your expectations re. email & spare change.  you seem to set yourself up for disappointment.

I feel like you're withholding critical information.

A typical e-mail exchange ...

Them: "Jeff, I need your help! PLEASE! It's somewhat urgent! Are you free?"
Me: "Yeah, I'm wide open (not really) ... what can I do for you?"

Then, here's an e-mail that I might send ...

Me: "Hey, I hate to bother you, but if it wouldn't be much trouble, would you mind ..."
Them: [no reply]

Next day ...

Me: "Not sure if you got my e-mail yesterday, but again, if you could ..."
Them: [No reply]

Three days later ...

Them: "Hey Jeff, sorry for the delay! Yes, sure, I'd be glad to help you out! What do you need me to do?"
Me: "You're off the hook. Job is already done. Thanks anyway."

Working on that. But I think I need to learn how to push other people over.

in all fairness, i asked you to send me the email in question and you didn't. pot meet very similar pot. also, why is it that the people that need the most help are the ones most unwilling to take it when it's offered?

It's not one e-mail in particular.

You need to do a spell check-type thing except have it in angry thesaurus mode - lots of "rough ridin'" for "please", "screw" for "thank", etc type of substitutions.  Try incorporating  :chainsaw: and  :curse: into your email sig and report back

Pretty sure this doesn't fit your situation, but I really really like not responding, so that the person needing the help figures it out on their own and just does it and never again asks for the same favor.  Tough love or something.

goes more like:
Them (me): "Hey Jeff, sorry for the delay! I was super busy doing important crap, hope you figured it out? lol"
you: "You're off the hook. Job is already done. Thanks anyway.  You know, I really learned how to do some of this not-as-important crap and feel confident in accomplishing it!"
Them (me):  "go me!"
you: "You're kind of a dick though."
Them (me):  " "
and scene.

agreed. I'm pretty sure this fits Jeff's situation, although he would probably ask the same question in the future.
