So, can anyone explain the play in game situation to me? Why does one bracket have 2 play in games and another has none? I can see wanting to make the lowest at large bids play the extra games, but you'd think they'd be playing for the same seed and there would be one in each bracket...

My understanding is that the four teams that are not 16 seeds were the last four teams placed in the field. As such they have to play the play in games.
