The hoagie, carefully-toasted pillow of the angels resting gently below the provolone and steak above. Flavors mingling in a seductive pas de deux. And then, a kick! The most playful little jalapeno bite. Then a congress of grilled onions, peppers, and earthy mushrooms so exquisite. Swirling in your mouth, breaking apart and combining again in a fugue of sweet and savory so delightful. This is no mere sandwich of grilled meat and toasted bread, Fake SD. Have to admit I like the place. Although I am a Wildcat through and through, I went to grad school at KU because KSU didn't offer the post-grad degree I needed. I and Mrs. Bones went to BB's after every final exam and ate their great food and drank their great beer. We try to go back there every time we're in Lawrence.

That said, BB will never be better than any place in MHK.

Unless, of coures, someone brings back Taco Hut to MHK. Then all the the others might as well shut down.

would eat there 1-2 times a week because coworkers loved it.  always thought it was kind of cool that they closed the place for a week in the summer so that the family could go on vacation together.

I walked in to Border Bandito, took one look at their Taco Bar, and walked back out. Did not look good.

Bigg's BBQ is very good, as is Burgers by Bigg's.

I grew up in Lawrence and there are some pretty good restaurants there. Free State, Pachamama's, Teller's, Zen Zero, Buffalo Bob's, The Mad Greek, Papa Keno's just off the top of my head. Some bygone restaurants that I miss there are Tin Pan Alley, Dos hombres, Molly Mcgee's, The Magic Wok, and The Cornucopia.

I'm not joking when I say that this is the only decent place to eat in that whole town.

I feel bad for deuce, I've eaten at half those places and each one wasn't average or okay, each was disgusting.  Growing up in Lawrence must be like growing up in a sirloin stockade, as far as food goes.
