I sometimes use a solar-powered calculator if I need a calculator at court and if I'm already using my phone simultaneously.  They kind of suck.

My parents had some solar powered landscaping lights along the sidewalk to the front door.  They were horribly dim, so they were replaced with hardwired ones.  You can buy 25 of the solar ones for $30 or so.

Going through this right now.  If anyone wants two dozen of these junk things, they're yours.

Speaking of good investments (that aren't dumbass ideas that haven't done crap in 25 years), LinkedIn went public today and are already up 141.22% (by the NYSE's count, not Beem's).

I have a solar-powered digital thermometer at home.  It sucks when I want to know the temperature outside at night.  :shakesfist:

FSLR opened at $24.50/share in 2006 and peaked at $308/share in 2008.  That's quite a substantial increase.

over the span of 2 years, yes.  But this is 3 hours.  I understand it will level off, I'm just saying.  It could be one to watch here in the near future.

For example: First Solar (FSLR) – (up 4,685%) and Trina Solar (TSL) – (up 1,774%) during 2010 have both had good years – and investors who got in early are no doubt very happy they did so.

There's a real-time stock price thing on that site.  It actually went down as I was looking at it.  :surprised:

That's actually a good thing if you're looking to invest right now.

Bad thing if I'd invested a minute before I looked.

Not a big deal.  Whatever happens to First Solar in the future, it will always live on as part of goEMAW folklore right up there with the Amare Camp and the selection committee.

First Solar's a giant in the industry.  It's not going anywhere.  Like I said, though, the solar industry is going through a transition phase right now, and a lot of the smaller firms will start to consolidate with companies like First Solar in the future.  Also, if you're looking to invest in an up-and-coming green stock, check out ECOtality (NASDAQ: ECTY).

If this was 2001, beems would be investing his entire 401k in Enron.

If you have an "in" with any of these places, find out if they're willing to make a corporate donation to the goEMAW BBBS fundraiser.  And don't forget to get LSOC or I some dates we can meet you in KC so we can go to the bank and get some of the trust money for the cause.

First of all, I would never pour all of my money into one stock.  Diversifying investments is one of the first things you learn about in economics/finance.  Second, pretty much everyone who follows the energy market will tell you that solar energy is the way of the future.  It's not a matter of "if."  It's a matter of "when."
