Solar PANELS will never be a real viable option for any power production outside of making greenies feel better about themselves. There are other more modern ways to get power from the sun (even up to ~20hours/day) and even those are a drop in the bucket to what the world demands. So Ben, tell me how solar panels are going to do anything?
