Larry Brown, still loving KU after all these years

Quote
“We went to lunch today. We had dinner last night after the game. You can pick up stuff just talking to him about anything,” said Self, who worked as a grad assistant for Brown in 1985-86. “He’s a very wise man. He and Billy are watching practice today. Hopefully they’ll watch with the intent of helping me.

“They can’t talk to the players about anything (regarding specific instruction in accordance with NCAA rules), but certainly I like it when you have a different set of eyes to come and evaluate the team,” Self added.

Brown — the only coach to have won both an NCAA (KU, 1988) and NBA (Detroit, 2004) championship — is allowed to make small talk with the Jayhawks.

“Hi, coach. Thanks for coming,” freshman Josh Selby said, shaking Brown’s hand while chasing a rebound.

“You healthy?” Brown asked Selby. “Yes, getting there,” responded the Baltimore combo guard, who has been hobbled by a stress reaction in his right foot.

“Good, nice to see you,” Brown added as Selby headed back to the court.

Yet the hatred of Brown in 1989 filled the air in Lawrence.

Based on what he originally posted, I think (a Phog Net Talking Point) applies now more than ever.

Is it funny that Larry Brown is like the 3rd most famous guy by that name?  Nah, I didn't think so.

While Frank gets his coaching tips from Brad Underwood, Bill Self is out there consulting with Larry Brown.

84-68?

Northern Iowa?

I'd say Larry giving Bill tips on how to make KSU fans happy?

Actually according to some shirt-tuck who called into 810 earlier this week, Tex Winter has been attending practices and consulting Martin.

I can picture Tex now slurring the triangle to Frank while staring into space.  That's quality consulting my friends.

I remember after that Williams feller left for a better opportunity, Brown's name was mentioned for a possible return to KU, and Jayhawks fans were all "we are way too good for that cheater who left us on probation!" Nice to see they love him again now that he stopped by after cheerleading practice to their current coach give some advice, perhaps on how to  circumvent NCAA rules and FBI crackdowns?   :bait:

Don't forget that Bob Knight does the same things for KSU that Larry Brown is doing for Kansas.  Seems fair.

That may be the only thing keeping Tex alive.  KU has a history of making terminally ill kids into mascots.  Tex may be serving that role for us this year, but Tex can also actually help us if he can find a way to get his thoughts out of his damaged body.

Doesn't Tex have more Champ rings than Brown?

Also, isn't Vitale now scheduled to clean Allan's Fieldhouse with a toothbrush this summer?
