Wasn't K-State picked to finish 1st in the Big 12 this season?

Bilas is talking about exceeding expectations.  Frank Martin and K-State definitely haven't exceeded expectations this season.

 :flush:

who should win it, and why?

If KU wins the outright Big 12 title, I'd give it to Bill Self.  His team was picked to finish 2nd in the Big 12 this season after losing two NBA lottery picks and an All-American point guard, yet KU is sitting at 27-2 and in position to win a seventh straight conference title.  You could also make a strong case for Tad Boyle at Colorado, especially if they finish 9-7 and earn a 1st round bye in the Big 12 tournament.

hmm...sounds like your picks EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS, which is what Bilas is talking about.  Are you fracking Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)?

Two in a row for Frank now.  How many before they name the award after him?  Or will they call it the Frank Martin Big 12 Coach of the Year Award starting next year?

They will probably wait until after next year when he wins it again without his All American point guard and best big man.  Then again, the Kats will be better next year without those 2 and Frank will have to do something more awesome to exceed expectations.

you should probably change your talking point and want Frank to win the big12 COY award so he'll move on from KSU and quit kicking Bill's ass all the time.

Meh.  I actually enjoy having Frank at K-State.  He's only got two wins against KU, FWIW.

Yeah but, according to most UK fans, this years team is better without those two NBA lottery picks and an All-American point guard, so you guys should have been picked to win it outright from the beginning.  :dunno:

Doesn't it say something about the coaching staff when a team loses three starters (two NBA lottery picks) and gets better?

They should rename the award to Recruiter of the Year.  Does anyone actually think these coaches really do that much coaching?

Yes I do, but I also think people that think they are better this year than last year's number 1 overall seed probably have trouble tying their shoes.

I think it's Self.  He is saddled with one of the dirtiest/thug laden rosters in conference history and is still winning some games.  Granted, they lose to good teams but ku feasts on the also-rans.  Pretty tough to win those games night in and night out with such character issues.

ya, they were highly rated kids who everyone in the world projected to be NBA lottery picks someday.  wow, great job on not letting them eff themselves up no matter how many times they've tried to trip over their own two feet.

Quote
At Saturday’s end, the Jayhawks had an 82-70 victory, a 27-2 record and a two-year record of 60-5. How in the world have they done that with constantly changing player availability?

Marcus Morris, the team’s best player and therefore the last guy who has to worry about buttering up the coach, fielded the question and then did what he always does. He spoke from the heart. He’s as honest an interview as you’ll find in today’s careful world.

“It’s got to be the coaches,” Morris said. “We had three NBA players leave us last year, and nobody really gave us much of a chance. Kansas State was No. 1 in the conference because of all our (personnel) losses.”

That’s the way the Big 12 coaches saw it, ranking the Wildcats No. 1 in the preseason poll. K-State’s playing much better now and still has a chance to finish fourth. Kansas moved into a tie with Texas for first in the Big 12 with two games remaining.

“It all comes down to coaching,” Marcus continued. “Coach Self is just a great coach. The coaching staff is one in a million to me. Having D. (Danny) Manning coaching us every practice, giving you insight on what move you should make and what move you should get to, you definitely have to cherish that because it isn’t going to happen all the time.”

As much as I hate saying this, what about the Turd?

He barely has a guy on his team that can dribble, yet they've got 3rd place pretty much locked up.

God I rough ridin' hate that cocksucker though.  Whines like Jim Boeheim.

Its not like any other coach can claim a sweep against one of the Top 4 teams in the league. Well, one has wins over the top 2 teams, but that's different.

No other program can claim seven straight Big 12 titles, either.

The "soren petro" method of awarding the COY is a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) and lazy method.

Seriously, though... why does anyone think Frank Martin deserves Big 12 COTY?  Is it because he did a terrible job of coaching the team earlier in the season, and now they're finally playing up to their potential?

Pffffftttttt... I've been defending K-State/Pullen/Frank on phog.net over the past week and a half.  I just don't think Frank deserves Big 12 COTY.  K-State was predicted to win the conference this year, and they're sitting at 9-6 and in a tie for 4th place.
