Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Got that pre-ordered.  Early reports are PS3 version looks better, of course.  Sorry to say they had to take out towns (wtf) and made it pretty linear as opposed to earlier FF games.  Cautiously optimistic.

In previous Final Fantasy games you'd visit a town/village/city for your shopping/selling/running around in random strangers houses and stealing their crap needs.  In this game, there will be no towns or anything like that.

Oh, and linear meaning, you have one area to go to, and that's it.  Forget about veering off the beatin' path.

I played the hell out of Civ 3...loved it.   I tried out Civ4 a bit, but while the graphics where more high-tec, it sorta felt clunky to me.  I'd love to get back into Civ though.

Agreed.

I once played a whole game of 4 without a single war.  I didn't change any of the settings from default.  I did like country borders, since there are always annoying foreign soldiers that love to run through my territory.

Still play Civ 3 some.  Civ 4 blows.

I liked Civ 4.  More stuff, more rules to play with, better graphics.  If you don't like the settings/rules you can change them (same as Civ 3). Also the addition of Religion and Corporations added a new dimension to the game.

It was a shame that religion wasn't a factor earlier in the series considering its real world impact that it has had.

Never tried Civ 4.  Just don't have that much time on my hands.  Probably won't play 5, either, for the same reason.

Saul, do you ever use cheat codes to create an army of wolves and just ravage the countryside?

Religions in Civ 4 are worthless.  There is a disclaimer in the book saying they don't want to piss anyone off, so they made all religions the same.  BS.  If you found and adopt Islam, you should get a suicide bomber unit.  If you found Buddhism, you should get a Mangino unit.  If you found Christianity, you should get a Gideons unit which force slower population growth in cities with universities, due to people not crossing at crosswalks and getting run over.

They add an excuse to declare war or defend yourself against attacks, and grant additional happiness.  That being said they are easily ignored if you incorporate free religion.

rumors at this point -

- Switch from squares to hexagons changing the way the game plays. More room for maneuvers and more tactical options.
- Changes to combat. More depth in combat, no more stacking of units. This will lead to bigger focus on terrain.
- Inspired by Panzer General.
- Reintroduction of Bombardment, now archers and siege equipment can shoot over melee units.
- Better diplomatic AI.
- More diplomatic options between players.
- Less "cheating" AI.
- Religion is not a factor anymore.
- Ressources are not infinite. For example one source of horse only supplies enough horses for 1 unit, but when that horseman dies the horses will respawn as a unit. (this confused me alittle, i guess we will have to watch it in action)
- City States as a sort of small countries that never develop beyond their single city. They can provide bonusses if you befriend them, or you can take over their land.
- Civics are out, now there is something called "Social Policies".
- About the same amount of wonders, the tech tree will feel familiar. Great People still in.
- Some victory conditions changed. For example in Conquest you only have to capture all the other capitals. Eliminates boring mop up phase.
- Unique Civ leader bonusses, no more standard "Spiritual" or "Financial".
- DirectX 11 support.
- Built in webbrowser. Sid Meier is also working on a facebook application of Civilization.

Glad bombardment is back.  Of course since units can't be stacked, there will be no more placing 50 howitzers around a big city and unloading on it.
