Just depends on the year.  I've seen them get up to three teams in the tournament before.

why would this be a talking point?  they didn't make it to the actual good teams in the league.  it could have been the rest of the number one seeds crammed in their bracket and it wouldn't make sense because they didn't make it far enough to play the hard teams in the bracket.

Not that it matters, but I don't get your point.  Didn't two teams make it to the elite 8 out of every region?
Matter of fact, I think Tenn and MSU were 2 of the 3 lowest-ranked teams in the elite 8.  I'm puzzled.

That's  cuz there were ku fans sitting around me in OKC yelling "Missouri Valley" early in the game making fun of the pirates.  They obviously are the only lbbiq fans ku has...no stickers tho.
