Bravo, Lew

Quote
Unlike other defendants, Kirtland did not plead guilty under a plea bargain that included a cooperation agreement with prosecutors. As such, prosecutors are not expected to make a recommendation for leniency at sentencing.

That lack of cooperation agreement also means that Kirtland will not be giving up anybody else. So his plea is likely to be the last in this case.

Lew Perkins and Roger Morningstar just gave each other a wink and Lew lit a cigar with a hundred dollar bill.

ku AD employee performing well above expectations--I'd expect Kirtland to roll over, but he actually did the manly thing to do.    What motivated Kirtland to avoid squealing like a pig to get more lenient sentencing?

You can answer that question, by answering this one...where did all that money go?

Pure Genius that Lew Perkins . . . remember when he had everyone in Tardville sucking his dick when he announced the Gridiron Club "Coming Fall 2011" and he was promising $40 million dollars towards academics?    Only to have to send the minions over to the football stadium in the middle of the night to take down that huge banner from the side of KU Track and Field and Football stadium??   Frankly for anybody else that's a PR disaster . . . but not for Lew Perkins.

I'm going to put Lew's take on this deal somewhere in the high 6 figures.

I doubt you've ever seen an AD take a school for a bigger financial ride for both the positive and the negative in the history of college athletics.   Even DeLoss Dodds, oversee-er of an operation twice the size of ku athletics looks on in awe.

I am 100% serious when I say that Lew needs to write a book.  Needs to wait the 7years(or whatevs the statute of limitations is for stealing), then write the juiciest book on a high NCAA institution ever.  Can you imagine the book deal that would bring?  I would pre-order one today if I could.

Yes, I remember....that it took place about the same time he encumbered the University for about $50 million in debt.  Lew is a genius in a salesman kind of way:  Promise lots of money to lots of people while spending like a drunk sailor.  Lew is truly an inspiration.  I'm grateful that the ku fanbase are the type of collective rubes that buy into people like Lew--it will provide years of fodder for ridiculing them, especially if the state has to step in to prevent default on bond repayment.

If he could sneak an early copy of the manuscript to Currie that would be fantastic

There's nothing wrong with debt.   The one thing about a good chunk of Lew's debt was it was for sports and facilities that produce no revenue.   It was rather odd, they spent a lot of privately raised money on facilities that support revenue producing sports, they spent a lot of borrowed money on facilities that support non revenue sports.   Kind of ass backwards from the rest of college athletics.
