The "contested 3" is nonsense.

the ease with which the shooters were able to get open and catch the ball comfortably in space was the painful part to watch.  they made ksu pay with a great shooting performance.

after watching the finishes of ISU and NU, I think McNeck and Doc need to spend more time on offense bombing 3's instead of messing around w/ set plays.  JMHO.

a) We did not play good basketball last night, on either end of the floor.

b) No one will care how we won this game in March.

c) This game will have little, if any, effect on how we play in March.

Well, you're wrong they were for the most part contested.

I do recall a few run out and flail at thems. But you talk like they were all like that and frankly, most of them were well contested.

Tried to explain this to everyone on chat but sys overpowered me and made everyone not believe me because of all the combo-fanning I do  :embarrassed:

Um my idea of a "well contested" shot is the shooter struggling just to get it out of his hands.

Not the shooter completely squared up, set, getting a perfect delivery pass with some defender flying out at the last second to "get a hand in his face".

to summarize- it's good to play like crap and win.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Okay some had a flailing hand in their face, that got there just after they released the ball after the shooter had a chance to set, square and fire.

Good point.

in regards to a 3 being "well contested:" to me "well contested" means the shooter has to attempt to create separation himself to even get the shot off...a "hand in the face" basically means you are giving them an arm's length worth of space.

dax addressed the problem.

Contesting was probably fine overall, but the problem was we let NU catch with space and set up shots in rhythm.  Granted, on most nights just contesting shots probalby would've been enough to hold them to slighly above their average and not 67%.   However,  when a team gets momentum/confidence and starts hitting shots like they were you've got to do something else to take them off their rhythm and we never did that.  And the weird part was that usually when this happens its one or two guys, but NU had 6 guys shoot 50% or better from 3.  And 3 guys hit 67% or better, including Anderson hitting 83% and Jones hitting 75%.  That's just ridiculous.

Part of that was probably due to not giving a full effort b/c the guys no doubt had in their head NU's 1-9 record and thumping by UT last weekend.  Part was also probably an adjustment NU made from last time; their players talked about them using more baseline screens to get shots tonight and I would assume that was something we didn't anticipate from them going into the game.

:flexsinfrontofmirrorandpopscollar:

i thought they played pretty well in the first.  like crap in the 2nd except for that little run (ref assisted).  also thought jhr was his normal crap self, even though everyone here acted like he saved the game or something.  dunno.  going to rewatch the game eventually.  might post again after that, if further review shows that i was right.
