American Funds: The Growth Fund of America

One of the most popular and well known mutual funds of all time.  Anyone that knows dick about investing has heard of it.  Incepted in 1973.  Here's a prospectus, it's a regulatory document required by the SEC.  Average return since inception of over 13.5%

This has been a really good investment for me in my Roth IRA.  Anyone else have any great mutual funds or stock ideas?  I heard the Magellan Fund is closed.

It is a very well managed fund.  Guys like these make others in the industry look that much more incompetent (which they are).

I prefer non-regulated hedge investements though.

FinReg pretty much destroyed the unregulated part of hedge funds.  However, most of them will be managed by State Securities commissions, so unless they're in NY or Cali, they're basically still unregulated.

Manning and Napier, and Janus have some really good funds too.  EXWAX is a great overseas fund.


Anyone looking to play inflation should check these ETF's out:  TMV  TZA and their sisters.  You can even write options on them!

I received a hot tip via email that I should invest in the next greatest pharma company at only $.60 a share.  Projected price for the stock in 10 years is $50.00. Sounds like a great opportunity please advise?

not even half of them fall under state regulation, which by the way, is a joke.  how many accountants are there in topeka (the same state spiraling towards bankruptcy) do you think understand complex derivative models and distressed debt analysis?

yes, but it is extremely exaggerated in the financial world.  For example, an OSHA worker is making less than me, but maybe 50% rather than 500% or more.

hence the phrase "basically unregulated" (see original post and corresponding  )

since generally only sophisticated investors or those with substantial assets can get involved in these, not sure regulation is all that important for the smaller shops
