my guess is the "staff" got their hands on the youtube vid of him dunking and Snyder was all "Mo Cox, get over to Horton right now, and no stopping at Golden Eagle"

That is likely exactly how it went down.  It was so funny how you explained it and very cool.  I'm sure Dax and a few of the other cool ones will stop by and high five you and chime in with their own funny takes.
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

ah, the old hips/ass post.  yep, consider me unfazed.  always have, continue, and will continue to mention hips and asses.  it is a definite gay fetish of mine.  it has nothing to do with athletic traits or movements.  nothing.  all gay, all day.

let me know if you've got something for me.

I agree with Manhatter's assessment. Clearly the kid has some raw athleticism. I do think the fact that he couldn't dunk the ball off the dribble does show some lack of coordination, though. I'd like him better as a grayshirt, but I think it's a whole lot more likely he ends up starting as a redshirt sophomore than not, so I'm not losing sleep over a scholarship offer.

What about the Superman from Andover, KS that was in the exact same position? Ended up starting several games as a Freshman during our championship season

Take this fwiw...

Quote
Wanted to pass along a few things in regards to Mohamed Barry for those still interested in his recruitment to keep in mind.

First off, Tom Hayes and, presumably, other representatives of K-State's staff will have an in-home visit with Mohamed tomorrow (Wednesday) night. I'm not positive on this, but I'm fairly certain they will be the last in-home he gets before his announcement on Thursday. That's not to say other coaches won't be calling him, but as far as an in-person visit goes, it's nice to know K-State should get the last word in.

Secondly, and maybe more importantly right now, I've heard some rumblings about Barry's current academic standing and how it could play a factor in where he ends up.

From what I've gathered through some sources, K-State feels pretty confident in their ability to get Mohamed qualified if he so chooses to become a Wildcat. Hard to deny that confidence considering what they were able to pull off with guys like Terrell Clinkscales recently.

Nebraska on the other hand is a different story. As we all know, Big Ten academic requirements are much more challenging than the Big 12 and, even more specifically, K-State. Word is Nebraska is already brainstorming ideas of a JUCO route that could place Mohamed outside of Lincoln should he commit to them. That conference switch sure was brilliant for circumstances like this huh?

Now, I spoke with Mohamed this morning about that possibility and he just laughed, adding that no team - Nebraska, K-State, or otherwise - has even mentioned junior college to him. Then again, why would they? That's not too surprising if you want to land a kid with risks.

Both sides feel they're going to get him. Personally, my stance hasn't changed despite a very positive Nebraska visit. There's simply too much riding in K-State's favor from an off the field standpoint for Mohamed to completely go rogue.

I'm sure if Barry flips, Ted White from Overbrook will be able to tell McPherson College thanks but no thanks.

Perhaps you'd feel more at home here: phog.net

Beems tells us annually that they are filling their class with EXACTLY the types of recruits you prefer.

I also think that the staff panicked. There's the very real possibility that Reynolds goes to ASU, English goes to TCU, Edwards goes to ISU and Robinson stays with Louisville. Which wouldn't have been a complete loss because we could have always picked up Dishon on signing day...except for the fact that, unlike most kids from bumfuck KS, he was already committed to some directional school. So now we have at least one DT in this class and we'll have to see if that impacts at all what those 4 other guys decide to do.

we're worried about Iowa freaking State.

You're worried about Iowa State.  I doubt the coaching staff is.

I can't think of a dumber thing than getting upset over K-State recruiting. It's the same thing every year and somehow ppl find ways to meltdown over it. I'll start getting concerned when this coaching staff has dissolved, until then, MEH.

we're giving this kid a scholarship because we whiffed on kids that were higher up on our board.  semantics I guess.

He's insurance.  Edwards and English are coming next week.

Do you think that if we get commitments from both of them we'd be afraid to ask Dishon to grayshirt?

I don't.

Maybe we waited to give the offer to Dishon because we didn't want other schools to follow our offer with an offer of their own, because these schools know that Snyder is so good at evaluating talent.
Or maybe Dishon has been committed the entire time, and the joke is on us (and Bethany or whatever school he was committed to).
Or maybe he was on our radar the entire time, but we only had the scholarship available once we were sure that Derricot was transferring to [wherever].

Either way, I'm not going to get worked up about it.  The posters who bitch about our "lack of speed" and pick out particular losses from the last couple of years seem to forget that we have the best record in the Big 12 since moving to the round robin, ten team league.  Moreover, these posters assume that if we wanted to beat out OSU, USC, UT, and Bama for recruits we could do so if we simply stopped taking so many local Kansas kids and so many walkons.

I will enjoy Dishon tearing stuff up on the field, while all the posters on here refuse to enjoy his success because they are convinced that [fill in the name] is a better player because of how many stars Rivals assigned to [fill in the name] three year's previously.
