Thank God we don't have to worry about this at KSU
« on: February 17, 2011, 03:52:04 PM »
I guess this is a dilemma the Haverhill and his Iowan minions will have to sort out

DES MOINES, Iowa - An Iowa high school wrestler who was one of the favorites to win his weight class defaulted on his first-round state tournament match rather than face one of the first girls to ever qualify for the event.

Joel Northrup, a home-schooled sophomore who was 35-4 wrestling for Linn-Mar High this season, said in a statement that he doesn't feel it would be right for him to wrestle Cedar Falls freshman Cassy Herkelman. Herkelman, who was 20-13 entering the tournament, and fellow 112-pounder Ottumwa sophomore Megan Black, who was 25-13, made history by being the first girls to qualify for the state tournament. Black was pinned 52 seconds into her opening-round match, according to WHOTV.com, an NBC affiliate in Des Moines.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Cassy and Megan and their accomplishments. However, wrestling is a combat sport and it can get violent at times," wrote Northrup. "As a matter of conscience and my faith I do not believe that it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner. It is unfortunate that I have been placed in a situation not seen in most other high school sports in Iowa."

I can see where he's coming from. He probably would've broke her neck. Might as well give him a damn 9 iron and let him wail.

Why was a home-schooled kid allowed to compete anyway?

Was wondering this too. Maybe he just has no social skills and was afraid to confront a woman  :ck:

Yes, we should discriminate against them for not hearing the message of Dear Leader in our fine government schools!

home schooled children are allowed to play sports for the school that they would have attended.

Yeah, so instead, we should let some middle-aged white trash mother with no formal training teach her kid.  Great idea!

He was worried about the boner he would have been sporting from rubbing up against a girl for the first time.

The worst experience of my life was wrestling in high school against a gentleman who got wood during the match. Wrestling a girl would be a walk in the park compared to that nightmare.

Gotta agree with Brock here.  You know that little dork sprouts wood everytime he gets within 20 ft of a girl so he just saved himself the embarrassment.  Sad really, probably the only time the kid would get to 2nd base before marriage.
