The Cyclones are reeling and this would be a bad loss. They shoot a lot of threes offensively but don't oboard well or get to the foul line. Decent defensively, but average on defensive boards. Trying to play at a fast pace this year, but in their only Big 12 win they slowed down the game with Baylor and hit shots and played solid defense. Finally, not a deep team at all, 5 guys playing at least 28 MPG and those same 5 have played 71% or more minutes on the year. They will be desperate, but withstand that early and this is a team we should be able to dominate similar to NU last night if we come to play.

Sounds like some JYC perimeter D will win the game for us.

This game scares me. I think Vanderbeeken (sp?) will go off from 3 and score like 30 points.

ISU hitting a bunch of 3s is a valid concern, but the profile for K-State losing is pretty simple.

If we allow ourselves to get beat on the boards, especially the offensive glass, and we have a TO rate far greater than our opponents, we will lose.  We are likely going to have a TO rate of around 20%, we just have to force our opponents into the same amount or more. If we can get to the FT line that would be great too. What I like about this game is that it is a decent match-up for us in most of those areas, its just a matter of whether or not we take advantage of that match-up.

I subscribe to rob's theory of CK being able to feast on garbage teams.  I guess the middle of the pack is allowing us to hang around even with our record but I have to think this one is a turn out the lights type of game if we lose.

Meh. He may not have "feasted", but he did have one of his better Big 12 games for this season.

the only way isu can beat high major teams is by hitting lots of threes.  oth, they've got two guys that are extraordinary shooters.

make garrett shoot, shoot and shoot some more.  he wants to anyways, so it's not that hard.  just don't collapse on his drives and let him kick out to the good shooters.

Considering teams are always are "on" for us, I expect a 71% 3pt shooting day from ISU

I like Cassidy and I think he provides some good insight, but I think he's wrong on this one:

http://espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=303272306

http://espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=303370265

http://espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=310220245

That's 3 games against quality opponents in some tough environments where he was probably our 2nd best if not best player.

Yes, he played poorly agaisnt Fla, Mizz, and ku but he wasn't dominating against the likes of Emporia St, Alcorn St or Loyola either. I think it's consistency against everybody, not necessarily against just good teams, is what could take CK to another level.

I'll also say that I was fairly encouraged by last night, as _FAN illustrated through stats, we won it on the defensive end, forcing them into mistakes, and owning the glass. If we can maintain this identity Sat up in Ames, I like our chances.

On a related note, it was a good to see Kelly, Samuels, and JHR all play well at the same time. Maybe it had something to do with the Nubb's being thin in the frontcourt, but I can't remember another game this year where we had 3 bigs play well at the same time like that(too lazy to look this up  :ck:)

More than 2 buckets from the field, for starters.

He also knocked down a trey and only had 1 TO, while playing solid D throughout the game.

But I realize that won't be enough for you, I mean why stop with "starters", what other elements of basketball excellence do you demand?
