When he was three years old, Barnes was playing with a pig on a family friend's farm and it bit off part of his left ear.

Count me as unimpressed that Barnes can recruit to Texas.

can we also count you as a dumbass?

Number of McDAA's recruited to Texas before Rick: 1
Number of McDAA's recruited to Texas by Rick: 11

Their basketball program underachieved even worse than their football program before they revamped their entire athletic program in the early 00's. UT should've had lottery picks stuffing their dorms in the 90's, but they didn't because 1. nobody in Austin gives two shits about basketball, 2. UT's leadership had let it slip into a wounded Southwest Conference also-ran in the 90's and 3. nobody in Austin gives two shits about basketball. Despite the general apathy of the fans there, recruiting to UT is easier than recruiting to KU if you have the administrative infrastructure in place. The fact that UT didn't have a bunch of AA's before Rick got there does not really bolster anyone's argument that Barnes is a good coach because he can recruit.

look at this man stylin' over here

He doesn't recruit. The University of Texas recruits.

I'm going to put in my application to replace Rick Barnes. I could do a better job.

I still agree, but I also have to admit I'd be pretty disappointed in only getting to the 2nd weekend 2 times in the last 7 years considering the talent they have.  I'd also say only 1 Final 4 in his 13 seasons is disappointing.

Would you trade Rick Barnes straight up for Frank Martin?

I go back and forth on this.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Probably not, but there's probably only 5-10 coaches in the country that I would definitely trade straight up for Frank. Most of Rick's haters would probably have a difficult time finding 10 coaches that are clearly better without kidding themselves.

FWIW, many think Frank is very similar to Rick: Great recruiter, bad "coach".

It would be some kind of Utopian Nirvana if Frank Martin could recruit Rick Barnes crumbs.

 :dubious:

Not a hater, but blindly thinking he's great is incredibly dumb as well. That's the point I've been trying to make.

He's arguably a top 10 active coach. I think that either makes him either great or pretty good, whatever you want to call it.
