Most of our runs start with bad offense. A string of possessions with bad offense always seems to lead to breakdowns in half court defense. Then we mix in some dumb TOs that lead to run outs and transition points. All of a sudden we've given up a double digit run. While I agree some of this is weird lineups and deficient talent, I also think this is just an incredibly weak team mentally. The past two seasons with minimally more talent we seemed to respond quicker and stop the run at 7-8 points, and only give up one a game. Now they happen multiple times and stretch to 12-13 points. I'm not naive enough to think we will never give up runs, that's part of the game, but those 4-5 more points we give up multiple times are the difference, and the inability for someone to step up and make a play. Case in point was Kelly stepping over on the inbounds and allowing a 10 point run to turn into 13, you never know if stopping that run at 10 and then playing well for a stretch like we did and going up by 2-3 instead of tying the game doesn't make things different down the stretch. Plus that run started with the back to back Souhtwell fouls, one ending a possession the other giving up 2 FTs. But this team finds ways to do that stupid stuff; and really it's a fine line between cutting a few of those mistakes now and then to having 3-4 more wins.
